The Leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration Demetris Christofias has come up with an offer to President Mehmet Ali Talat, inviting him to join his working dinner or lunch with the EU Commission’s President Jose Manuel Barroso next week.

The Commission President prepares for an official visit to Cyprus where the latest developments concerning the Cyprus negotiations process will be high on agenda.

If President Talat accepts the offer, a trilateral meeting will be held on the Cyprus issue, involving the EU.

Mr. Christofias has held a series of meetings with EU leaders including Jose Manuel Barroso, as part of his visit to Brussels for the EU Summit.

He held a press conference to evaluate his contacts in the EU’s capital.

Referring to Barroso’s upcoming visit to Cyprus, Mr. Christofias said he will have the opportunity to discuss the Cyprus problem with the Commission President more extensively during a tete-a-tete meeting next week.

Also touching upon his meeting with the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Christofias said that he would probably pay a visit to London in a near future for a broader discussion with Brown on the Cyprus problem.

greylag. Apparently he hasn't turned it down: The President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barrosso will arrive in Cyprus on Wednesday, the 24th of June.

As part of his contact, Mr Barrosso will meet the two leaders respectively before holding a trio meeting.

Details of the visit is not clear but Presidential Undersecretary Asim Akansoy told BRT that Mr Barosso will meet with President Talat at the presidential palace on Thursday.

On the same day, Mr Barrosso will come together with President Talat and the Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Christofias at a lunch at the UN controlled buffer zone.

President Barroso`s visit comes before the elections for the European Commission Presidency.

If only they put as much effort into sorting out the AGA fiasco - where they really COULD have made a difference...
