From 21st May this year, three weekday flights will be introduced between Birmingham and Dundee, with one return flight on a Sunday. CTA fly Birmingham/Ercan on Mondays. This could be a useful option if the flight times/days tie up. Karen

| Spook Flights operated by Whoosh airways from Dundee-Birmingham were suspended last December after the holding company went bust. It has been taken over by Loganair( a subsidiuary of Fly-be) flights to Birmingham are to resume on 21st May 2008 prices including taxes start at £39 one way and possibly upto 4 flights/day. jmg171 Dundee is quite a busy little airport, Air France fly several flights daily to London City also Loganair to start Belfast flights again to meet the demand from the large Irish student population. | jmg171 Don't worry about it. Dundee airport for many years was just a grass strip, then about 30 years ago Dundee District Council along with Tayside regional Council and Scottish Enterprise financed the concrete airstrip. Over the years it has rapidly grown with the new terminal building being opened not so very long ago and the runway extension now giving the airport much larger plane capabilities It is so much better to use than the big airports, you just park up, walk in, check in then go!!! Maybe we can convince CTA to open a route to Ercan!!!!!!!!! |

Thanks so much for that info Karen. That will be very handy for us living in Dundee area. We have flown into the south these last few trips, purely because it was too much of a hassle getting down to Manchester or London. Was totally gutted when flights were stopped from Glasgow. Sam

Hi SamDil Lets hope the flights tie in somehow with the CTA ones, or that CTA don't decide to stop flying from Birmingham. Karen

Karen Or Fly Maybe decide to pull some flights because of "technical" problems ( half empty planes) This happened to me when I took myself and a party of 7 on a trip to NC I booked a flybe flight from Edinburgh to Birmingham to catch the CTA flight only to find flybe pulled the morning flight meaning that I had to pay £1000!!!!!! to BMI to get us all down in time to catch the 2pm flight. The ironic thing was that the CTA flight was delayed for 3 hours which meant had we waited for the later flybe flight we would have still been in plenty time. Believe me I was not a happy bunny!!!!!!!!!!!!! As a footnote in todays local paper there is word of a Manchester daily flight being introduced which will give us more options. Jim.

Hi Jim That's terrible. I suppose your travel insurance didn't cover flight cancellations or anything like that. I heard yesterday that they are trying to open up more of the smaller airports around the Country (not sure what the carbon footprint lot will have to say about that ). it could be argued that if the flights are full then there is less traffic on the road so less fuel emissions from the transport. Not sure how this weighs against the aviation fuel. In an ideal world you would be able to get local flights to link up with international flights. Sorry just rambling. Karen

Lovingcyprus Thats interesting, I know that CTA fly twice weekly to Ercan from Manchester The more options into Ercan the better as I have had to fly into Paphos a couple of times over the winter( no scheduled or chartered flights to Larnaca from Scotland Nov-Apr )and I am fed up of the 2-3 hour tedious journey to Alsancak. I can only hope that Dundee does open up a Manchester route. Jim.

wackyjim Go to the Manchester Airport website and then search on fligths to Ercan http://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/ I think you might get a better fare if you phone Turkish Airlines than shown on the Man Airport website

Hi Karen, Yes there is always that fear that the routes will be cancelled. Checked on both airlines and here is the scheduled times from Dundee to Birmingham 3 flights daily Mon-Fri Depart 06:50 Arrive 08:25 Depart 13:50 Arrive 15:25 Depart 18:00 Arrive 19:35 No flights Saturday. 1 flight Sunday Depart 18:00 Arrive 19:35 Flights Birmingham to Dundee, daily schedule Mon - Fri Depart 08:55 Arrive 10:30 Depart 15:55 Arrive 17:30 Depart 20:05 Arrive 21:40 Flights from Birmingham to Ercan are on a Monday only Depart 13:00 Arrive Dalaman 18:45 then depart Dalaman 19:45 arrive Ercan 20:45 Return Ercan to Birmingham Depart 07:30 Arrive Dalaman 08:15, then depart Dalaman 09:16, arrive Birmingham 11:30 So, yes at the moment, they do tie in. Flights begin from Dundee 21st May. Am unsure when flights begin from Birmingham to Ercan. Sam

| Hi Sam My fear is that Flybe ( or FlyMaybe as its known by many) are notorious for putting on lots of flights per day and then if they think a flight is under-subscribed they will use "Technical" problems as an excuse to delay ( rarely cancel as they are then liable to compensation claims) and simply join the flight up with the next scheduled departure time. This has already happened to me and when I went to the flybe desk to complain I was told that some European aviation rule allows operators to delay flights for up to 4/5 hours without fear of claims. Flybe appear to use that loophole regularly!! I think my point is that using same day domestic connecting flights to international flights can be risky especially if you only have an hour or two between connections thus leaving no margin if a delay occurs. Insurance companies will not cover an international departure if the cause is down to a delayed UK domestic connecting flight. I can only hope that Loganair can operate without too much Flybe interference as they do have a very good reputation for delivering flights on time and if they do then it will be good news for anyone in Tayside looking to use Birmingham to fly to NC . | You have a very good point there Jim. Will try to remember to check out actual flight times when they start in May. Suppose that will have to be landings at Birmingham, as Dundee Airport does not appear to have its own website. I would like to think that it would be popular, but I really do not know that 3 flights daily from Dundee could be justified. I really hope that I am very wrong. Sam |

Don't know personally as never been to Birmingham, however I do use http://www.holidayextras.co.uk quite a bit for booking airport rooms/parking and find them to be very good. One little tip if you want to fly from airport and leave car, but stay at the hotel only on your return, just phone them and they will sort that out, I don't think you can do that via the website. Also if you check on http://www.saynoto0870.com , you can find a local number to contact them on, rather than the more expensive 0870 no provided on website. Sam
