Hi Spider, Yes it was hot last night, we had been to visit friends in Lefcosia and got home about 1.30, it was boiling when we came in to the house. We have two windows in our bedroom and get a lovely breeze off the mountains, but the barking dogs make it impossible to sleep with the windows open, so we have to use aircon/fan. Hattikins

Hi Spider I can strongly recommend that you go to the pub, drink a substantial amount of Efes, get home at about 2am, put the fan on and collapse into bed. Worked for me last night and I slept like a log

Where we are I thought it was a bit cooler last night as we did have a breeze. But no way could we open the windows so those pesky mossies could come and dine out. I am covered in bites, despite having all windows closed and spraying everywhere. Also Frog have not been round spraying for ages. I have to say jonandjelly idea does always work.

Hi Spider I'm fine thank you. Got the builders in at the moment doing a bit of de-construction. Very stressful, noisy and dirty and I just know they will be back for a third time to do the same job again in about 3 months as they never learn! Jo

It was warm in the UK too! Quite a sticky night in Manchester. Today is gorgeous, not a cloud in the sky, with temperatures expected to get to 24 degress. But then again it's all expected to change again Saturday with thunderstorms and cloudier next week! But it looks like the roof they've put on the Wimbledon Centre Court will not need to be used this year! Ifonly they'd known they wouldn't have needed to spend the money!!

Spider, pop down to your local pharmacy or nearest Lemar and get a mosquito bracelet. They are usually 5tl for and they have been the only things that have given me any real results - and like you I have tried everything. They will make you look like you are a guest at al all-inclusive resort but who cares about that if it keeps the little offenders at bay.

Hi Spider, You can always go take a look at the weather site from Nigel at Kayalar : http://www.nigelheasman.com/wview/img/Current_Plus.htm He gives highs (and lows) and humidity records for the day, as well as past 24 hours, week, etc And hate to depress you, but it is going to get much hotter and steamier! So you need to find a solution that works! ATB Karen

It was scorching in Lefkoşa yesterday with no sea breeze like here in Girne, do not go unless you have to, I had to buy a sun hat! These are my tricks to a good nights mozzie free sleep: no aftenoon nap, keep busy, sun-bathe & swim lots go to bed very, very, tired! Put the air con on in the bedroom on for 10 minutes before you sleep, use a plug-in insectant liquid repellant & last but not least spray yourself with 'Off' mosquito repellant spray ...sweet dreams :0)

hattikins, Turkish Nicosia is called Lefkosa. Greek Nicosia is known as Lefkosia. You said you had been to Lefcosia. What was I supposed to think you meant? Just bear that in mind next time you're arguing the toss with someone about Cyprus. Little things like what the locals call the capital go a long way for credibility. Unless you never bother with Turkish on the rare occasions you visit. How much do you want to bet that I am not Pikey?

Kitty 1..Those ankle/wrist bands are very good.Just returned after 2weeks inTRNC and not a single bite in site.We took our ultra sonic zappers with us as well, and they seem to work cos I was sweeping up dead bugs every morning.Perhaps the breezy weather at TBV does not suit them.My wife took her Skin So Soft and she only had two bites, and I think she got them when we were out one evening.Best holiday I have had in a hot climate for so little bites.Wonder if the Garlic I have been taking for the last six months might have helped???

ILK Yes I live here, I made a simple spelling mistake as I do not have a Turkish keyboard, that is it, nothing major, not life threatening, not important really, after all the comments were about the weather. Still, if you have such a sad life that all you can do is to come on this forum and pick people up on silly, insignificant things then I suppose I should feel sorry for you. Now crawl back under your stone and try to find something interesting there you sad pathetic cretin.

Someone always has to bring the conversation round to complaints and attack. Started off as a light hearted thread about the weather, by the way, we live in a hot country lol! Yes it was hot last night and the night before and tonight will be and tomorrow will be, that's why we love it here. I don't normally get bitten but this year I'm covered in lumps uck! Didn't know about Avon Skin so Soft, I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for the advise.

hattikins wrote: "Yes I live here, I made a simple spelling mistake as I do not have a Turkish keyboard." So you typed "LEFCOSIA" when you really meant "LEFKOSA", and it was just a spelling mistake, you claim? But the crucial letters are at different sides of the keyboard. Come off it - you called Turkish Nicosia by its Greek name and you couldn't even spell that right. At least admit it. Your swearing and personal insults in msg 41 proves your embarrassment. If you do intend coming to the TRNC a little Turkish goes a long way and shows respect to the Turkish Cypriots. Using the Greek name for a traditionally Turkish area is a cultural faux pas. The book "Teach Yourself Turkish" comes with a tape and I can recommend it to you. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/0844237159/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&n=283155&s=books

From what I know, mozzies are very weak flyers. Having an oscillating fan blowing from the head of your bed down towards the end should keep you getting bitten at night as it literally blows them away. Have the windows shut, aircon down to 20c and lots of fluid. Smearing yourself with Marmite helps but buggers up your bed linen. Keep a can of spray starch next to your bed, give a mozzie a good squirt as he buzzes about and watch as it slowly crystalizes, he stops buzzing, slowly goes into a death dive and shatters across the bedroom floor tiles. Revenge is sweet. Lem

lemtich keeping your aircon on at 20 is such a waste of elecricity as the room would never go down to that temp in the height of summer, keep it at 24 where it will switch to fan when it reaches that temp, mozzies no where to be seen or heard with a/c on. they usually appear while one is dining out side.

They need putting out of their misery, if, as they say that it gets up the locals noses when someone spells a name of a place wrong they are 'asses' as I have stated before. Do you know that the majority of folks that visit and move to a locality never hardly ever pronounce or spell it right! This is how names have changed over the passing of time. But unfortunatly some people cannot move on, so you get the 'I want to show you how clever I am' mob condemning those who unwitingly write something slightly different. Tiggy, do these people not realise that they dont iritate the majority, but if it helps their small minds (brainless) so be it. It keeps some of us in fits of laughter at their anti antics!lol

hattikins, Just keep repeating: "Lefkosa is Turkish, Lefkosia is Greek." Eventually it should sink in to avoid future embarrassment. Oh, and one other thing. "Merhaba" means hello in Turkish. "Yasou" is the Greek greeting. Try and get that one right. ;)

Yes well cypwine, perhaps your 'huge offence' is lost on most of us! As most of us care about other people expecially those not so fortunate as able bodied people, your posts of the past tell me that you like to hide behind something, and then the nastyness erupts that is in you regarding jibes at fellow forum members. So lady of leasure go back to bed!
