Hi newlad and waddo, From the photo accompanying the article it must be a long way away as it would seem that Greece is on the otherside of the crossing. Does the Greek flag in the photo mean "Welcome to Greece", "Goodbye from Greece" or just "Come back Enosis, all is forgiven"?

It's the crossing to the far west. It will make the journey to and from the Polis area so much quicker. Communities both sides of the border have wanted it open for some time. Ian

Dear Waddo re msg 8 I feel like the Genie ;).. I'm surprised all these Cyprus "experts" DON'T know where it is - but happy to oblige : http://www.map-cyprus.net/images/maps/4000/cy.jpg Look to the west of Morphou Bay .. do you see the region of Tillaria? Look north - above the A - and you'll find the village of Amadhies(GR)/Gunebakan (TR) - north again and you would find Liminitis (GR) /Yesilirmak (TR) That's as close as I can help with the maps I found.. re msg 9 The flying of the flags of the "mother" countries would have been prohibited - under the Annan plan - You'll know that that of TR is flown all along the green line - so going by your analogy is "TRNC" part of Turkey? .. I thought the Mersin 10 post code thing was just to ensure mail got delivered ;)

Near Lachi in the South 45 minutes from there is Phapos so it gives another way round the Troudos I think the correct name in the North is Yesilrmak( green river ) about 6 miles past Vuni Palace Great restraunt at the beach there as well !

mmmmmm, Thanks for that, thought that was where it would be but its a long, long, long time since I was down that way and the Island was all one in those days as well. Will make next years road trip back to the place my daughter was born a lot easier if it all happens and the crossing opens after all. Thanks again, sorry for the "Border" just could not resist!

You might say the TCs have a reason to fly the TR flag - they came to the rescue and the TCs have them to thank for their continuing existence. However, the GCs have nothing to thank GR for so we might be excused for thinking it's just a symbol of Enosis.

"Last week the UN’s Special Representative in Cyprus, Taye Brook Zerihoun" I preferred him back in the days when he was plain old Tim Brook Taylor out of the Goodies.

I doubt if the journey would be much quicker to Paphos when you allow for the difference in road quality, but it will certainly be a lot quicker to places like Polis, argaka and Pomos One query, looking at Mark's map. Will the opening of the crossing point allow traffic along the coast through Erinkoy, or will it have to divert round it? That could make quite a difference to the journey time. Ian

Hi Ian re msg 20 Paul re 18 Paphos/Pafos to Kyrenia/ Girne ... MUCH quicker via the Motorways The Kokkkina / Erinkoy enclave STILL means a 35-45minutes detour into the Troodos foothills :( I wonder if the RoC will allow the TR Army through to Kokkkina / Erinkoy - now supplied by land - in return for the direct route..... ? NAH..

Is the crossing point not at the Kato Pyrgos buffer zone? 'Limni' means 'pond' in Greek. Towards Polis, the coastal road passes the former Limni (copper) mines, which are now defunct, but the former British staff housing estate is still intact, with several Brits inhabiting several of them. I used to visit various people there, and one had to be extremely careful, as there was a tree in which there was a huge nest of black hornets - apparently, these had attacked and killed several people in the past - or so the story goes!

Or the one after!!!!! With Talat now appearing to say in press he cannot see a resolution before he finishes in April can see no reason to persisit in arguments over this crossing which only really benefits GC. But then who knows!!!!!!!

Ah, if only it had been open last week. Had some mates come to see me who were staying in Polis. Haven't been there for years myself, but have proof of my visit - I am sitting on a motor bike, wearing a crash helmet under the sign of the town under its old name -MARION. I kinda like it, and am looking forward to getting back when (and I own't hold my breath) the crossing actually opens. But not on a bike this time!

Yes Paul, but maybe Cyprus44 couldhave an outing when it is open. Take a coach through! And go beyond polis and bathe in Aphrodites pool, cos it makes yu years younger, and we can all return as truly recycled teenagers, and start life all over again. But I wonder if I did and became successful, would I be here???????
