Its great what they do in there, and its a great experience to take them out for a walk, they are really loving animals!

Want to know what everyone else thinks!

I have to be of the right mindset, lovely as it is giving pleasure walking the dogs I went once and one of the doggies really didn't want to go back heartbreaking - So I have to get myself prepared that I am doing good !! for that moment -

I love walking the dogs up at KAR. They are so well behaved despite the kennel environment they come out from. Cant believe that they all come back when you call them. The ones I have walked aways seem happy to go back. I suppose its the only security a lot of them have received.

The only one that was not happy to go back in, looked such a depressed soul.... so that was the one we now have at home with us. Best thing we did here as he is the most amazing dog.

I always come away after the walks in tears. Heartbreaking.

we went once with a friend who was looking for a puppy.

over crowded and smelly ,horrific would describe it.

i don't blame them ,i blame the goverment and all those who dump a dog or breed without reason.

something seriously needs to be done in this country regarding animal welfare or should i say the lack of it !

Hi it is very sad and they do try with limited resources.I heard this week that they are putting puppies down. I dont know if its true and I hope not but it is understandable. Everyone of us does try but we will never educate the masses they just want to eridicate in the most horrible ways. I just wish this government woud see and prosecute the people who do the bad deeds. My guess most of them do the same with the hunting dogsxxx

When i went the other day, one of the volunteers there showed me a dog which had a foot missing, and she said he was stuffed inside a crate and left at the door of the rescue.

How can people treat dogs like that!

They are all so well behaved when taking them out for a walk, but the one wouldnt go near you because he was scared of humans because of the way hed been treated.

Hi All,

We are due out tomorrow and want to go up to KAR during the week. This will be our first visit to KAR. Silly question I know! Do you have to tell anyone that you want to visit and take dogs for a walk or can you just turn up and are there any times spans to attend?

Also do you need to take anything?

Many thanks

Brian

Brian I think they would welcome food leads and maybe frontline etc. I think possibly also donations in the form of money to help them survive. Also any one who can do some handywork . Good luck it breaks my heart everytime. Just keep an open mind and please do your bit as not only are the staff grateful but the animals love the contact. Its possibly all they have. One day when I win the lotto all this will be a dream.

They are only open between 9-1 take some water with you if you are walking as it will be hot ! if you feel inclined buy some food for the doggies that you can hand in or spare collars or leads which they are always in need of.

I am sure the ones you take out will enjoy a bit of freedom for a while

The rescue is open everyday for visitors from 9am to 1pm and in that time you can play with, stroke and take the dogs out for walks. The leads are provided.

Obviously though, like Lilli said, they welcome donations if you are willing to give one! Or if you have children who would like to volunteer a few hours to help out!

But to summarise, if you want to just turn up and take dogs for a walk, its no problem.

Have fun!

I visited the Rescue Centre last week and was really impressed with the cat facilities. They have built a lovely exercise area which the cats are let into a couple of times a day on a rota basis, it was great to see the cats really enjoying themselves in there. I actually went to choose a new sponsor cat and for once didn't come away crying, I really feel the cats have quite a good quality of life there now, but of course it doesn't compete with a loving family and the freedom to roam.

I did tour the dog kennels and they now have an area for the oldies and the vulnerable dogs and things are much improved on what they used to be, but it all takes money and dedication from a small group of volunteers so any help (financial or practical) you can give will be very welcome.

i used to work up there i did for 2 years,

and it is very hard you try feeding 200 dogs and walking them all or trying to.

all our time and spear time is used up there we stay there from 8-4 but we close at 1 so the dogs are all settled in for dinner.

they cant take to many strays because of the room up there and the extra money what is going to be used. its sad but not every dog can just be brought up there all the strays that are tagged are monitored and they do a very good job up there

its hard work
