Hi Vicky

Welcome to the forum.

What area of Cyprus were you thinking of moving to? I'm sure everyone will be really helpful.

I would suggest do your home work before you move.

reallity will sink in if you don't have plan and what you want from the country.

have a list things you want and things country can offer.then make your own decision.

vicky, im a young bloke living out in Cyprus and i enjoy it. It will take a bit of time to get used to it, but after that you will realise its a great country. Its good weather, cheap to live, nice people, and if you work for it you can get a good nightlife aswell!

My advise would be to stay in the UK, work damn hard for twenty years and then enjoy your retirement in Cyprus without the pressures of a twenty year old, there is so little for you to do over here and sun, beach and partying all needs an income to support it and you will not find the funds here to make the next twenty years beneficial to you, be patient

Hi Vicky,

You don't say if you are moving out with family or friends or just by yourself. I hope it is family as you will need support. Esentepe is beautifull but you will need to drive as it is in the country with limited transport links. I always think there is plenty to do for young people but in Kyrenia, the job prospects are not good either but they are not impossible and if you manage to learn Turkish I am sure you will find work. I always say that life is what you make it.

Hi Vicky

When I compare the opportunities I had in the UK when I was 20........ working in the USA, travelling the world, fantastic nightlife, the great jobs, the social life at work, friends, men, shopping! This country would be sadly lacking. These are the best years of your life before you have a family spend them wisely...

However, if you are committed to coming there are some lovely young people here and I am sure they would welcome you.

Good luck!

I was 17 when i first moved to Cyprus. I love the country but I would only prefer to go there for summer holidays to be honest. I moved back to UK which is where I think is best for me education/work wise. And like Pogle has mentioned there are more opportunities out here in the UK.

Why don't you just stay there for a few months and see how it goes? Everyone has their own opinions..I may not prefer to live there but you might find it great! Give it a shot!

Good luck!!

Im moving with family... bit annoyed with every ones negative comments telling me to have a reality check..

I will be going living there but going back to the uk for a fews at a time through out the year.

I will give it a shot because at the end of the day I can easily move back to the U.K.

For all those nice positive people your welcome to my house party... drinks on me.

Vicky

Welcome to the forum, my advice would be to rent first and then look around to where you would rather live, maybe in town on the outskirts whatever.

But I wish you and your family lots of luck and maybe we will meet you all at one of our monthly get togethers its a good way of meeting friends

Best of Luck

xvickyx2009 to be fair to Aslan you never said in your first posting that you had family in NC or they were running business. Why did you ask? surely your family, if in business, should be able to advise. Everyone that has posted has given you good advice including Aslan, its your choice but don't knock it with the way you have replied in message 13 not a good start.

Ah, the gratitude of youth. Sounds like 'one' has a rich daddy and the word 'work' is not really part of ones vocabulary.

Welcome Vicky, and i hope things work out well for you,Sure wish i could have brought my children out here when they were your age..sun,sea,and pools in backyards...they have discos in town, and lots of night life for they young people, just be sure not to drink and drive, its bad enough with the mad drivers, let along the drinking ones...and you will be safe enough to enjoy a good night life, sleep all morning and sunbath in the afternoon, and i must say, sure as hell would not have worked for years, and years back home if i had the chance to live in another country, with warmer weather,go girl go,enjoy all of life has to offer,

Regards Spider,x

xvickyx2009 It was given as "advice" Aslan was not telling you what to do. Take it in the spirit it was given.

Hector, then she will fit in perfectly with some of the TC youth also, before they join the army of course.

msg 27,

We had a borderline personality disorder type a few weeks back who joined the board and started posting rubbish about having bought a property and asking about schools etc etc - before leaving in a huff after members pointed out their "instability".

I'm getting deja vu - and am wondering what rowlo is doing while you are posting.

Be wary, there are some GC supporters on here who will do anything to put you off. You'll soon get to know them.

Good Luck with your venture

xvickyx2009. I am certainly not jealous. I have done my stint in NC a fair few years ago now. My son (in the picture) was 17 when we took him out to NC. Certainly different then and not as many youngsters his age. He made good friends with the ones that were there and TC as well. He worked out there in 3 different hotels Riverside, Club Z and Sempati. A more level headed bloke you will not meet. He is thinking of going back for a holiday in August with his girlfriend and I would love you to meet him. His experience of NC was both good and bad, but he says that it gave him a good background for living abroad, because if you can take NC you can take anything.

As for me, I remember NC when it was unspoilt, I could see St Hilarion from my apartment window every day. Not much construction, people, well they can be the same where ever you choose to live, some good some bad. But my mistake was to make enemies with some TC because I chose to do things my way and not listen (cont)

Hi Vicky, Im moving to NC this year in july. Before I came 2 times and stayed around 1 month each to take a look if i like there or not, what job opportunity i can have, is it sense to move out from my country origin (its not UK) or not, etc. Im 26, just finished Univerisity , I have B.A and few days i got M.A degree, Im looking forward to study more etc. I had many doubts too, like you but I made a list of + and - and I advice u to do same. Its not an easy decision, obviously it needs to be considered many times. Its good to ask yourself what do YOU really want to do on NC...U are coming with ur family, ok but what YOU wanna do here? (dont answer here answer yourself) and maybe this will help you with decision I dont have any friends on NC at my age yet - Im looking forward to find some too

I advice u to come to NC few times per year not only in summer. Come in winter as I did to take a look how island "works" at that special season. This could help you too

I want to add only that apart from you, Im coming to NC alone, Im leaving parents and family in my origin country and moving out to NC by myself. You will have somehow support by ur family members, I will be alone with my fiance who is TC but as I said my family is not coming with me. Thats why my decision was really hard to make. I wish you good luck, and who knows maybe we will meet in Esentepe one day if u decide to move

Hi Vicki, as Stewart says live life it's the only one you have. I am a lot older than you and have lots of I wish I hads and if only I had. Well I am trying to make up for it and grow old disgracefully. Still not managed to retire to NC but it is in my plans but did as a 50 + do my first (but not last) scuba dive out there. Love the Island, the people and the life. Might not suit you but you will never know till you give it a try, and how I envy you. Good luck girl. If NC isn't for you I am sure you will find your ideal place in the future. This isn't a rehearsal. LIVE LIFE!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Vicky , no how your feeling, me end hubby felt the same way a couple of weeks ago, before we left England behind us, and headed off into the sunshine of cyprus. After the first 2 weeks of hectic paperwork ect, its great to lie back and enjoy the stressless life that is here on offer to enjoy. There is lots of people on line to help us, when in doubt give them a shout i knoe there will be plenty of friendly advice. I remember one advice which has proven to be very good, it was, LEARN TO LISTEN , good luck xx
