Hi zerochlor I clicked on to your link in msg 21 and it said Famagusta and Kerinya which I took to be Kyrenia, and just thought people that hadnt seen it would be interested to see what the harbour etc looked like. Nothing sinister intended.

Have you been swallowing more propaganda aimed at dumb Brits who don't know any better? Tell me about the Turkish Cypriots enclaves in 1974? And developments in 1968? Then we can compare our experiences and memories of Varosha, Famagusta. |

We had booked to go to Famagusta in 1974 on holiday and had to cancel due to the turmoil. It was the number 1 resort in Cyprus at the time. One day it will be all sorted out and will be a lovely resort again.

Loved looking at the photos. Its such a shame its not now as it was then. Hopefully one day it will be re-opened, rebuilt and the tourists will flock back to a beautiful area. Famagusta was dead last week when I went to visit and its such a shame.

Thanks a lot for the photos. lovely to see them, and I have talked to folk who were around there at that time, and others who were visiting. Last time I was swimming in Palm Beach hotel (in the pool under the bubble) somebody started letting fireworks off, and I thought they were shooting! Didn't know whether to stay in the pool or run for the hotel!

Message 34 and others - do you lot really think that Varosha is "lovely" You obviously then will be content if the Turks adopt the Greek style as in the South where the whole place is high rise. That will be followed by "English, Irish and jock" bars and the karaoke which we keep hearing about. So a once quiet sophisticated part of the island will become an 18/30s resort like everywhere else.Go for it - you helped spoil the south so I suppose you will do the same to the north. Progress !????

Hi, I've just read your post which induced me to join the forum and reply to it. My wife and I lived in Miaouli Street 1968-1970. It was an army hiring as I was serving with 9 Signal Regt at Ayios Nikolias (4 Mile Point). Your photos bring back happy memories of that wonderful place. Thank you very much! I hope you get to see this belated reply.

Great pics. I read not long ago that Famugusta was due for a major renovation programme, any one got an update on this ? Back in July on my last visit there was major road improvements going on, it looked like the road leading into Famagusta may become a dual carrigeway and the road appeared to be widened.

message 76 agree "blot" on the landscape - with the concrete jungle aspect - hopefully if a settlement is ever agreed it will be flattened and something more in keeping with the island will be rebuilt in it's place - it certainly will generate lots of jobs! Having said that it is great to look back and see the old sights /old car models. Many thanks to zerochlor for the nostalga
