Hi,

There are a couple of discusssions on the requirements for a Turkish (as opposed to TRNC) driving licence: -

http://www.fethiyetimes.org.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1384&Itemid=58

http://www.turkishliving.com/forums/cars-motoring-turkey/4445-renewing-uk-driving-licence-turkish-driving-test-2.html

If you need more information, just put 'turkish driving licence' into Google.

It's all there...

Keith.

Just visit one of the driving schools you will find them by the police station in girne. They can provide you with all the information you need.

Go to the Girne Tax office (if you are coming from Alsancak take the first left after the roundabout with fountain and it is down there on the left hand side where all the cars will be). You will need to take your full English liscence, 4 passport photograhs and you then you fill out a form. They will then take your licence and give you a green slip stating your licence is on it way. You should then receive it in about 3 weeks. I think its around 250tl for 2 years but not sure. If you go to a driving school they will charge you for doing this.

Message 6,

I think by a Turkish license he meant a TRNC license.

It was self emplied, especially as his location is Ozankoy.

If you are applying for a TRNC licence for the first time you have to go to Nicosia.

kazbo,

In that case nikicik is dead right - the people at the driving school will do it all for you, for a small fee (can't remember how much though...)

You have to go back a few days later to collect the new one.

You DO have to be careful what you post on here - one comma in the wrong place, and WW3 breaks out

I am OK with commas KC, but there are enough postings that fail to acknowledge just exactly where people are. Politeness and diplomacy are always respected.

kazbo,

- And don't for heaven's sake use the word 'border' (or even 'boarder'!) or else you'll have another pompous know-it-all on at you!

Guin,

Just how does a slip of the tongue constitute impoliteness? Didn't the apology take care of that?

And how would YOU know about diplomacy?

Anyone diplomatic would have either kept their fingers away from the keyboard, or gently endeavoured to help the poor soul instead of pontificating...

kazbo,

Do you have a UK driving licence?

I think that the later info from nikicik relates to people who have never had a driving licence at all, and therefor need to take lessons.

If you already have a UK licence, it's a lot cheaper, and doesn't involve a test.

If you do intend to drive here, then you can drive on a UK licence for a maximum of 3 months, before using a TRNC one.

I was advised to apply straight away by the Avukat who sold me my insurance (I inadvertently put 'solicitor' in another thread, but fortunately no-one noticed - whew )

Keith.

RE: Msg 16 KC

What do I know about diplomacy ?

I am a professional working in a diplomatic mission in Lefkosa and have been doing such work since 1989, and at the same age as you I have similar experience of life. Now if you want to take it to personal levels get it off the board - my email is listed.

Guin,

That was very nice of you to apologise to kazbo, maybe you're not so bad after all

I note that you don't appear to take your work home with you!

As for taking it off the board - if YOU feel free to criticise others on an open board, don't be too surprised if you get some back - and PLEASE don't tell me what, and where to post - not very diplomatic, don't y'know...

My email address is also listed, if you are interested.

Best regards,

Keith.

I agree, take it off board.

You are both respected forum members. A little misunderstanding has gone on here I believe.
