We are buying at SWB and intend to have lots of long holidays in NC - can anyone tell me whether an NHS system exists. My boyfriend and I are very lucky and in good health but we wonder what would happen if an accident happened for instance. Should we just take out private insurance in the UK. Can any ex pats give advice - many thanks.

Hi jakki

You can take private medical but the hospital and services are of high standard and much cheaper than UK - the British Residents' Association has a special for all medical.

I am surrounded by boxes and general rubbish and can't see an end in sight and only 24 hours to go - in my next life I am definitely becoming a hermit!!

Look forward to having a drink with you.

regards

Hi Jakki

NHS is not available in NC but as Milou stated the hospital care is cheaer than UK. Girne hospital has an A&E department which is free. If you require NHS treatment you will have to cross the border to the South (make sure you bring your EU card with you).

I know of at least 4 of our friends who have had both free and paid services varying from emergency treatmant to operations and on every count they have spoken very highly of hospital services . If you join either the HBPG OR BRITISH RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION they give a discount to a private health scheme . Hope this helps .
