Could this account for the fact that on the way home yesterday, a load of students boarded the plane in Antalya wearing masks?

(The useless Greek Cypriot administrated area) < => So they must have flown from the UK to Larnaca in "the useless Greek Cypriot administrated area"... They should have flown to TRNC's International Airport Ercan! You're sure they didn't catch the virus in the UK...? |

flu is flu. no matter what name the government give it to scare people into havin vaccinations that are more harmful than healthy. thousands die of flu every year, usually the very young, already sick, and elderly. Flu is around every year. the idea of epidemic is rubbish.

Dutchcrusader, message 3, Not necessarily. The Virus could have spread from somebody in the south to the North, and these Britons could have caught it from somebody in the North that had/has it. Or they could have caught it in the UK, as you said. I think Ercan airport needs to adopt a similar tecnique that Istanbul airport has. Heat sensor cameras are placed at the passport control booths, and those with high temperatures are stopped and checked. Yes, it may not be the most efficient, as you could have a simple fever, but it really does help, and is exactly how the first case of the flu was found in Turkey.

Im coming this sunday to Cyprus, and unfortunately I will land in Larnaca and then i will go by bus to Nicosia then to north side. I am wondering if i should wear mask all the time or not? Is it possible to get infected inside airport or not? Anyone knows they are checking people in Larnaca ? My plane is not coming from UK...in my country we had only 2 cases with H1N1...tourists that came from USA.

Ercan airport has got those heat sensors there. They were there when we came back from Istanbul a couple of weeks ago. Someone was caught with a high temperature and was quarantined and tested. Turns out he only had "normal" flu, so they let him go. We also had to fill in health declarations, on the way to Istanbul and on the way back as well.

Flew into Ercan last night and there was an ambulance outside the arrivals area and a couple of people were sitting to one side all wearing masks so hopefully the cameras are working.

From... http://www.cyprus-mail.com/cyprus/turkish-cypriot-side-has-absorbed-99-cent-eu-aid/20091222 A SECOND person has died in the north as a result of the H1N1 flu, according to a statement by the Turkish Cypriot authorities. A 45-year-old woman with no previous health problems was believed to have caught the virus on December 11, though she was not hospitalised until three days later on December 14. To date, three people have died of the H1N1 flu virus in the government-controlled areas. All three had previous health complications. Navek

I seem to remember reading somewhere when bird flu was around that although people were wearing face masks, they were really ineffective, something to do with the holes between the fibres of the masks and your inhaling and exhaling through the fibres that helps the virus to get through anyway. Better to wash your hands regularly, especially after visiting the toilet in the pubs etc., don't shake hands with people too much (or kiss too many people on Christmas Eve!).
