It is a no no cars rental cars going from North to south the GC's won't let them in. Silly really considering it would mean more revenue for them with holiday makers spending in the South. But there you go obviously the PM down there is a man or he would think logically !!

I heard that http://www.birdrentacar allow their cars over - with a letter of authorisation. You will have to get insurance at the crossing.

nurseawful Your info is out of date, hire cars from the TRNC are allowed into South Cyprus. However, very few TRNC Car hire companies will allow their cars to be taken to the south of the island. This has been the situation for probably 12 months.

Birdrentacar will allow you to take your car over the border. All you need is a letter of authorisation from them ( written in Turkish was my experience) A copy of the log book, your rental agreement, your passport and your driving licence. You have to pay for insurance at the border( 25 euros for a minimum one month and thats third party only, tax is free). People at the Metahan crossing were very helpful. The whole process took less than 5 mins. The insurance office closes at 14.30 hrs so give yourself time to do the required paperwork.
