Hi, my friend paid for furniture from Homebase in October, after millions of excuses, they admitted they could not supply in FEB!! They gave her a cheque (which was returned by the bank) When she went in to demand her money back, the guy threatened here (I know a lot of nasty people etc) She eventually got her refund but a warning to future buyers!

She was too afraid to put a posting on here for fear of reprisals but me & my neighbours think it is atrocious and think other Brits should be warned.

Her solicitor can verify all of this as he rang the company to demand her refund.

Hi Nicky

There is a shop called Homebase in Girne its down a side turning virtually next door to the small Tempo store, I think its behind the old Cyprus Paradise offices.

another company who use these tactics are citroen in lefkosa. we purchased a new citroen, car they gave me had odd wheels and tyres with the tyres round the wrong way. they stole the cd player and alloy wheels before delivery which was late at night in the winter so it was dark. hubby went after the boss and got manhandled by his heavies. then hubby called him stupid which provoked the reaction of the boss to get my hubby arrested. i phoned a friend who went and had hubby un-arrested and we were given our money back.

Yeah, and don't buy car insurance which includes third party, fire and theft!

I mean, who the hell is going to steal a burning car?

In my humble experience, if something doesn't feel right when buying, (your gut will give you the feeling) WALK AWAY. These suppliers want YOUR MONEY more than you want their goods. If the deal is not to your liking, I say again.......WALK AWAY, plenty other suppliers.

We bought a three piece suite from Homebase 2 years ago and they were spot on with the delivery, which was done when we weren't even in the country(very good neighbour). When we got over there several weeks later and unpacked everything we found out that one of the settees had the wrong coloured wooden feet but after one phone call they had it changed within a couple of days.

It isn't just TRNC where problems arise with purchases as you get plenty of horror stories in the UK as well.

We bought a dining room table with four chairs last year from Homebase. After about a month we noticed the chrome plating peeling off the chair legs. Took the worst one into Homebase who said we must have been using an abrasive cleaner or had damaged it ourselves. After much huffing and puffing they agreed to replace or have the two worst chairs. These were taken away with the promise we would have them back in 2 to 3 weeks at the longest. 3 and a half months and many excuses later (one of which they were in a container on the Dolphin which sank) we were still sans chairs. After staging a sit in at the shop and threatening to go to the press we were offered a replacement table and chairs (which we chose in wood and had to fork out a good deal extra cash for) Since then anyone we meet who is looking for furniture we advise to avoid Homebase!

We have bought a few items from Homefront (not to be confused with Homebase) and have nothing but praise for their service and staff.

We bought several items through Homefront. Some of them were damaged and to their credit they took them away immediately and repaired them. They also , made us, free of charge, a bathroom shelf.

Go to them direct and not through a third party and you should get better rates.

My wife and I have just found this forum and have a property due to be furnished now. Does anyone have an idea as to how much it should cost to furnish a 2 bed apartment with practical (not expensive) furniture?

We have bought on Crystal Bay Marina PB3(R) so would also welcome any stories/information regarding this complex. To date we have had no problems - everything seems to be running smoothly.

Wine Man

I don't know anything about Crystal Bay Marina, but when I had a quote from Homefront for nice furniture ( a friend went into the store and looked), a 4 bedroomed villa was between £4000 and £5000 to fully furnish it. As my villa isn't completed yet I can't speak from experience but reading answers on this forum and from my personal contact with them I would say they seem pretty good.

Hi homefront were a little slow with delivery of our goods and when the chair we ordered on our last visit arrived the fabric was totally wrong however we actually liked it so kept it..

The dressing table we ordered had the wrong design on the top and did not match the bed head but cyprus is cyprus and you actually give up in the end and accept they make alot of mistakes sometimes it's not worth the hassle or inconvienience of kicking up a fuss...

Wineman We are buying on Crystal Bay Marina B5 Ground Left. We went out to the site in June this year and so far the site is progressing well. Going out again in March 2009 to buy furniture and white goods, and hoping that the site is finished and that we have our keys from Evergreen. Tony and Susan.

Hi Tony,

good to hear you are a neighbour.....the 1st one's we know of. Do you have any ideas as to where you will go to buy furniture & white goods.

Have evergreen or NCI contacted you regarding furniture packages?

It looks as though all the properties are finished so I was thinking of visiting in Jan/Feb 09 to try and sort bank account and look at furniture deals. It seems so hard to find furniture that is not OTT, we just want solid practical stuff.

Hope to see you in TRNC soon.

I bought my sofas in Lefkosia, nearly always a couple of hundred quid cheaper than Kyrenia, most local people wouldn't pay what they charge at the Furniture stores frequented by ex-pats, I looked in Ikstabal store in Lefkosia at a suite and the identical one in Kyrenia was loads dearer so i am not telling porkie pies.

Wine Man take a look at Burhans in Girne driving towards Karaonogolu it's on the right hand side. They also have a website & we found prices to be reasonable when we furnished our apartment. Good luck.

We got all of our curtain poles from homefront, just little problems, like the poles were too big for the brackets, sorted straight away, the owners name is Sheriff, and speaks English.

We bought furniture from Homefront last year and because they couldn't deliver it in time for our holiday, they lent us sofas and table/chairs until our order could be delivered. Great service and would definitely recommend them.

wine man

so sorry for not getting back, just see replies, if you go to Lefkosia, when you reach big roundabout with the rocks on sticks, turn left and keep going on the Famagusta/Ercan Rd go through 2 sets of traffic lights and just before the third set the shop we bought from is on left Ali Ijip or similar, just across the carriageway is the Isktabal furniture shop, hope this helps

Re message 9

Firestarter, just to balance things, our experience from Citroen has been very good, purchased an almost new car from them, no issues. Had to call out Citroen Assistance at Christmas as engine management misfunctioned, no charges to pay & fixed the following day with presents from the service garage as well because it was New Years Eve.

Sorry you didn't have the same service as we experienced.

Doesn't Ismet's (elko) daughter own Homefront? Or is it another store that she owns.
