Has anyone on the forum noticed a hike in their monthly turkcell mobile bills? over the last 2 months my bill has almost doubled in size and yet the phone usage is about average!

yes I have funnily enough or rather hubby noticed my bill it is usually in the region of 15tl last month 40 and this month 39tl. Strange

I thought so too.... mine is usually 30-40 ytl..... the last two months have been 100+??....not used it much more...whats going on?????

yes mine was way up from usual 40 - 50tl last month it was nearly 90 and this month well over 100 and my wife's is double what it usually is - guess i will have to into turkcell and get an itemised bill! and find what is going on.

I agree i nearly had heart failure when i got their text today to say my bill was 683.78 TL!!

What???

ok so i run a business from my phone but it has never been above 380 TL

i will certainly be asking to see the itemised bill

think and feel like i am paying for all!!

My bill this month was/is 24 tl.

If you dont have SKYPE suggest you look at getting it. I use it for most of my calls here and abroad.

Skype to Skype ( called Skype IN ) is free and Skype out ( to any non Skype number ) is £30 a year plus just over 1p per minute anywhere in the world.



Some useful advice for using a mobile can be found on MartinsMoneytips@moneysavingexpert.com and for other money saving advice and the latest offers on insurance,flights,reclaiming for being over charged by your bank and credit cards etc etc. Not that they all apply here in the TRNC but can be useful when going back to the uk.

A very useful site and free.

While I agree that Skype is a good idea, I should point out that call charges vary ACCORDING TO THE DESTINATION - not where the call is made from.

Calls to UK landlines CAN cost as little as 1.2 p per min (1.4p inc vat), although calls to UK mobiles cost over 10 times that amount. 0844,0845,0870 & 0871 numbers cost from 7 to 13p per min approx, calls to UK premium rate numbers can be as high as £1.72 PER MIN!

There are plenty of countries where it costs over 30p per min to call them on Skype.

If you purchase your Skype credit within the EU, you will be charged VAT on top...

The £30 annual charge only applies if you want a (say) UK number that friends who do not have a computer can use to call you, via your computer.

So, do be careful, and check the rates before starting a long chin-wag

Forgot to mention, calls to TRNC landlines via Skype are 9 pence per minute (+VAT if applicable) - even if you are based here...

Not sure if that covers mobiles also, I'll try to find out.
