Hi Lisa

Moira & Keith set off on Tuesday after we sent their container. Their intended route was staying North and including Greece, missing Bulgaria. Moira (Forum name Milou) will be back in circulation on here as soon as they stop driving & she can find an internet cafe.

Cheers

Jo

Hi,

i have recently done the long and tiring jorney and would recomend that you put your car in to a container and fly out.

Bu t if you really insits on driving the best route is to get to Brindisi in Italy and get the ferry to turkey then drive along the south coast of Turkey to Tasucuc and get the ferry to Girne. A tomtom will get you as far as Budepest then you are on your own.

Good Luck

I did it both ways last May

Got the ferry from Italy to Cesme going out. (About £350 - £400)

Then a day's driving through Turkey to Tacusu. Then the overnight ferry to Girne.

Paperwork at any Turkish borders are a nightmare, expect at least a two hour wait. The ferry across to Girne is filthy.

Drove all the way back to UK via Istanbul, Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Austria, Germany etc etc. Left Wednesday am, got back Sunday lunchtime.

Hated it at the time, as we were put off by tales of bogus policeman with on the spot fines, but did not encounter anything untoward. Looking back it was great. Would do it again now I know all the pitfalls.

Basically be prepared for anything and don't set yourself any deadlines.

Hope it goes well

Hi again Lisa

If you 'bottle out' of the drive I've emailed you details of a really good deal on a R0-RO Ferry.

But as it sound like you are an intrepid pair, my best wishes and jealousy go with you! Enjoy!

Hi Guys, We followed the same route as most, UK, France, Switzerland, Italy, Turkey, TRNC. My No 1 recommendation is; make a holiday out of it, book hotels ahead (last minute.com etc) take your time and enjoy the trip. It really is a fabulous journey with some fantastic views and lovely people.

We would agree that the only difficult part of the journey was the trip from Turkey to Girne, on a very old, slow and dirty ferry! But other than that it was a great adventure.

Have fun!
