The banks will not take them, how much are you looking to change? I'm not back to Blighty until December but I'm sure someone will swap them who is returning sooner than I.

HSBC wouldn't change a couple that I had, best bet is to get someone going back to UK to buy them off you like Brinsley suggested.

I've had no end of trouble over the years and just have to change them

before I go. "Must have Madam's head on" I was told!

It is easy to forget when you go out of Scotland, and even in

England you can get problems. I panicked on a London bus when

realised I only had our money, but the Jamaican conductor never

blinked an eye when he took it!

During WW1 when my Dad's Cameronian regiment were stationed

down south before embarking, they nearly mutinied when shop-keepers

refused their money. The mayor of the town instructed them to take the

Scots' money, as they were fighting the same war!

Used to take Scottish £100 bills in London without a problem but Barclay's had a fit and rang HQ for verification. Idiot Bankers!

Rowlo,

You should know better Scottish bank notes are only legal tender in Scotland and always have been!

Wrong, they are legal tender in the UK, " I promise to pay..............." etc. There's a Northern Island bank which also issues; Ulster? Not sure.

Actually nurse is right, they are not actually 'legal tender', they are only accepted on an 'understanding' in the UK, and sometimes elsewhere.

If Scotland ever got full independence, the situation could be even worse!

Behave, have you contacted Hans about the Data Base yet? Will you once again rejuvenate your site on blood standby donors please.

If a country goes to the wall its currency is worthless, none of the notes in your pocket are worth anything when the chips are down.

Zimbabwe---a good currency to invest in 1970 s !!!

English £---a good currency to invest in 2009 ???
