If the chap is talking about Nilesat, then these are Free-to-air channels, as discussed on another thread.

There are no 'codes' to change - this is not a dodgy, illegal system.

If you want to see how many channels have mainly English speaking content, consult Lyngsat or King-of-Sat or any other Satellite information service.

Having said that, there are many more which are not listed, but which do occasionally screen British or American films etc., particularly in the evening.

Rather than making disparaging remarks based on no knowledge whatever, you might find it enlightening to do a little research on your own before commenting on things... - it is perhaps too easy to fire off a comment based on prejudice and assumption without making any effort to educate yourself.

I'm off to hide in a cupboard now, in case Brinsley sends some of them big Maori chaps round... - and I DO know that you weren't seriously slagging the chap off, but it WAS a BIT negative!

If you buy one of these low cost one off payment systems is it good for holiday homes.

Do you lose signal or have to retune if the system is powered off for a few months ? or is it just plug back in and up comes the programes

the free to view of nilesat is better than the free to view from eutelsat 13 east if its english channels for sure. i was toying with the idea of doing it my self but at the price quoted its not worth the hassel. any modern digital receiver pre scanned in will not loose its channel memory if unpluged for a period of time, if you are only using your place for hollidays or lets i cant see the piont in having an expensive pre paid or subscription system.
