NABUCCO: NOT A DREAM

Turkey and the four other partners of the Nabucco natural gas pipeline project officially signed a deal which would make Turkey a natural gas bridge. Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan described the agreement as "a historic step," saying "project is not a mere dream. This will become a story of success that will foil all negative arguments."

The project is estimated to cost some 7.9 billion euros. The 3,300km pipeline is expected to bring in 4.5 billion euro investment to Turkey and employ 10 thousand people. President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, said the agreement was a major step for European Union's energy safety. Iraqi Premier Nouri al-Maliki said his country hoped to provide 15 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.

Another ace in the Turkish deck of cards.

As the Turkish hand becomes stronger. Her position of influence in the region will correspondingly get stronger.

The ROC will not be best pleased to see this increase in Turkish Influence upon the EU.

It will be interesting to see who now will snuggle up to Turkey. I think this is a major step forward. Watch this space.

turkey doesnt need the EU it should tell the germans and french to shove full EU membership where the sun dont shine. turkey is the "super power" of the muslim world thats why russia the united states and britain are so freindly with her.

with regards to cyprus turkey will never let go of the north thats a fact.

Dear Andy-F

>>turkey doesnt need the EU<<

We will see.. !

Most of us realise that it will be a symbiotic relationship... in the end...

>>turkey is the "super power" of the muslim world thats why russia the united states and britain are so freindly with her. <<

I suppose it's got nought to do with:

1/ TR is in Nato - TR is the second biggest army...

2/ Russia's Black Sea Fleet must use the Bosphoros ?

TR's geographic position makes it strategically important...Russia would rather TR did NOT join the EU.. ;)

Mark you know what this is all about don't you?

It is all about having a gas source delivered to Europe that is not reliant on Russia. I understand that the Russians are spitting bricks at the moment. I wonder why?

Hi AJ,

NOoww.. I'd never have guessed ;) ( detect the irony ?!)

I blame those Ukrainians.. the Ukrainian speaking ones.. not the Russian speaking ones...

Ah well TR can steal our gas instead... ;)

May be one day Russia will want to join the EU and we'll ditch TR as Russia has the water, oil and gas... !!

Don't you just love politics....?

Bring on the Hydrogen cell powered cars... ( http://www.hydrogencarsnow.com/)

We can all buy our electric from Nuclear Iran..
