My advice 'DON'T DO IT'! However, the Bellapais setting must be in the top ten in Europe for position and ambience.

Hi there, Good luck to sorting out your wedding arrangements for next year. If you are thinking of having having an 'after wedding' party and need a good DJ then contact DJ MIKE. He is the Yorkshireman who does a Sunday morning programme on Bayrak radio. He has all the music equipment and his music range is from the rock 'n' roll era - through the 60's - 70's & 80's and right up to the modern day.

You can contact him on 0533 830 5374 or Email him on djmike@cyprus.com

Bellapais Abbey for the wedding and Ambiance is the perfect setting for the reception.

Hi, not sure wether you may be interested....I have a villa in Esentepe, it is suitable for staying in...and, due to it's great location and size...it would also make an ideal venue as a reception area ( suitable for at least 100 people )

contact me via scw@freshice.net if you may be interested

Hi. We got married recently at Bellapais Abbey with Vashti as our wedding planner - it was a perfect setting and we couldn't have done it without Vashti (for arranging cakes, florist, photographer, menu etc as well as helping with all the registry formalities). We also looked at some hotels as possible venues - The Merit was nice and would have been our second choice.

my wife and I (she's turkish cypriot, i'm american) got married last year in Girne. We did it at the Mercure, which was arranged by her family. They were great, took care of everything with the food, drink, flowers and all (although we did get our own entertainment) and made sure to note our specific requests on the menu and flowers and things. Only problem was they were fairly pricey, which can be an issue. We know another mixed country couple about to get married at bellapais and they are happy with everything and it's definitely a gorgeous setting, but I think they have a few, fairly easy rules about noise levels and such. For my money I can't think of a more romantic setting than the abbey, but they've had a more stressful time of it. It may be hard to do without a planner if you don't spend some time here well in advance of the wedding, so i'd recommend getting a pro to help. But you'll enjoy it, just expect the same wacky roadblocks and problems you'd have creating any wedding.

I also got married this year at Bellapais with afternoon reception at Kybele, followed by party at our villa in the evening. I used Carol Blackwell Gibbs as my wedding planner, she was invaluable as others have said, without living here it would be a nightmare to arrange. You must get correct paperwork beforehand which will be explained to you.

I had Jean Clark to do my photos (does the postcards) & Kybele put on a fantastic array of food. Any more details email me & I will pass on my experiences etc.

Cameron smummy - I havent any websites for Bellapais or Ambiance, however i am sure you can find them easily searching. Tracy at The Ambiance is fabulous, she is English and has been there for many years. She arranged my daughters 21st and it was a perfect setting, and we decided she would always get married at Bellapais Abbey and the reception would be at the Ambiance.

Msg 17 I 'm sorry to say when I last heard Carol was not very well and I am not sure that she would want to take on many new assignments until she knows she is on the road to a full recovery. As Dawn says Carol has a lot of expertise and a reputation that goes before her.

Msg 19 Mentioned before or call Teresa direct on 0533 866 1966 (see Msg 6) - she has good contacts.

Tom, you are right, she is unwell & is hospital & hopefully coming out real soon. She has had her back operation & is recovering at the Etik hospital in Nicosia. But whether she is wanting to take on any further obligations, I think thats up to her to decide. xx

Hi Cameronsmummy

You have already had lots of good advice.

Here's some more. In my experience the service provided by Carol Blackwell Gibbs will provide an unforgetable day, but unfortunately for all the wrong reasons.

Good luck

Doug

surely as the TRNC isn't recognised - how can a wedding conducted here be "legal" ??

Just a thought.....

Well as Carol is not here to defend herself, I can only say that SHE made my day so much better.

A wedding here is legal as long as you take the relevant paperwork to the Consulate in Bedford Square London & get it all stamped & returned back to TRNC no less than 3 months before the wedding.

We all can recommend someone, something , only to find another person disagrees, research & make your own choices.

I used Burcu and Susie Forster for my wedding photos - we were really happy with all the photos and I'd recommend them both. Vashti has their contact details.

I have just found this thread. Unfortunately I was very ill last year due to a tumour on my spine, but after 2 operations I have now recovered and nearly back to 100% fitness.

The Golf Club? I've been to a couple of weddings there, and The Star newspaper carried a story of one couple who married there recently. But if you want further info direct then contact Fulya at the club or take a look at http://www.korineumgolf.com. Vashti, Carol and independents have all arranged weddings there, but Fulya is the lady to start with for info.

It is really an outdoor venue and is superb, but as to costs, and how it compares, take a look.

The big difference between somewhere like the Golf Course and say, The Kybele, The Mercure, and other places, is that there are no tourists who just have to take a look. The Golf Course is virtually private - but it all depends on what you want.

Good luck with it all, and to message 22 I would ask 'What DO you mean?' and to comment on Vashti being a good friend - I know she will not let you down (no more than Carol would, or any of the others) and it is important that you find a planner with whom you are happy at the outset.
