| Surprise surprise! Just heard on BBC World news, mainland Greece has a major problem with illegal immigrants from around the world, many of them trying to reach France. The camp is just outside Athens and the Greek Government have been accused of brutal tactics in clearing the camp. Interviewed the female Greek Foreign Minister said this is a big problem and sources in Greece have now accused Turkey for not doing enough to stop the smugglers of illegal immigrants! Will Turkey and the TRNC ever do anything right according to the Greeks? Sounds like a bit of a smoke screen for heavy handed tactics according to sources in their own country. |

| Dear HereinCyprus re msg 1 WHY do you think GR is so in favour of TR joining the EU?... GR wants TR to have the responsibility for illegals from Syria, Iraq, etc. Greece ( current govt in power) wanted the GCs to vote YES.. The Greek and TR leaders personally get on OK This has nought to do with the CY problem.. or ignorant Greeks or Turks hurling "insults" to each other. The Greek govt is rapidly losing popularity because of the HUGE numbers of illegal immigrants - and most arrive via TR... It may even be crossing the boundaries of the immigrants HR in frantic efforts to win back popular support. BTW the RoC govt had (2007 ) the highest percentage of claims for political asylum by percentage of population - and guess where most of those poor people arrived from ?! |
