Hi everyone, thanks for all info on this site. My wife and I were looking to come over December to March but having just read all the weather topics for winter months in NC we are having second thoughts! We would be renting and wondered how difficult it would be to get an apartment with central heating? We are sixty years of age on a limited budget so cost is important. We would prefer not to hire a car (only on the odd occasion) so apartment needs to be near shops, bars and bus routes etc. never been to NC before so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks from rainy Scotland.

A/C to expensive to run and bad for the health. The solution I found which is more than adequate are the paraffin heaters sold here for about 80TL. They are squat so pretty safe and kerosene cheap to purchase.

we, kibsolar,

are the only company in the TRNC which deals only and only with renewable energy systems and battery buffered automatic (and of course silent) back-up systems.

we offer PV modules, solar chargers, true sine wave inverter/chargers, batteries and equipment to unbeatable prices and of only best quality.

same applies for so called "solar thermals", meaning domestic hot water, central heating back up, pool heating or all in combination and space air heating as well.

THE monthly offer for august (order date): PV solar modules and a solar powered pool pump as a DIY set and easy to install.

kibsolar....the only real green company in the TRNC.

All very well but I don't think eljay really wants to buy heaters. Anyone got any useful advice for him?

eljay, Winter weather in NC isn't the same as Winter weather in Scotland. My son and daughter usually visit between December/February. They haven't had a bad time, weatherwise, in six years. It's only after about 4 pm, when the sun goes that it gets cold, and even then it's not UK cold. I don't have cental heating, never even thought of having it. A gas or paraffin heater costing about 80tl and 10tl a week to run is all that's normally needed.

Thanks to all for your replys especially minertor, very helpful. Spent last winter in Nerja southern Spain and we definitely needed heating in the evening.

elijay - speaking from personal experience, I would say you will definitely need some form of heating. The weather can be lovely up until around 4.00pm but once the sun goes down, the temperature drops dramatically.

Last winter was, unusually, very wet, too.

This is only my opinion of course; I daresay what one person considers cold, another person won't.

Why not stay at the Pia Bella Hotel for the 3 months, half board, no cooking, no cleaning, no changing beds, no shopping, laundry there or just down the road. Cheap transport from outside the Hotel or 1/2hr stroll into the centre. Air conditioning included in the price of the room if you phone them ask for a special deal for the long stay, probably cost no more than renting an apartment where you will probably have to pay extra for air con. We stay at the Pia Bella for 1 month Christmas & New Year, really well looked after, resonable price for drinks and plenty of choice for meals.
