Any further feedback on the claim that the Fishermans restaurant was responsible for an incidence of food poisoning - or was it just more Brit tittle tattle?? I think the people responsible for these accusations should be taken to task!!! I am about to visit Kyrenia and will speak with Tunny. If the reports are indeed spurious I will assist him in taking action against those responsible. If, on the other hand they are correct I will just have a beer or two!

As I recollect, the Health department said that they believed it was a poisonous species of fish, rather than an issue relating to poor hygiene or food handling. I suppose you could sue THEM if you like, or you could actually find out more before you start spouting off & waving a big stick around Personally I think that the people responsible for the food poisoning should be identified and taken to task - you might like to concentrate your efforts on taking action against them - or NOT, of course, if they turn out to be friends of yours! If you are genuinely interested, I am sure that you will be able to obtain more up-to-date information from: - Ministry of Health Lefkosa, Mersin 10, Turkey, Tel 0090 (392) 2283173; fax 0090 (392) 2283893 Good Luck, Keith.

A puffer fish? You DIE if it's not prepared properly. The Japanese chefs take a 7 year course to perfect the art of preparing it correctly and even then the odd mistake happens and the customer dies! Richard

Fatboy..if the proprietor cannot tell the difference between a monkfish and a puffer fish its about time he gave up being a fish restraunt, assuming it was a puffer fish he was sent by mistake. They are not the sort of mistakes you want to make very often, could be bad for business....

ive heard of puff the magic dragon Sharks tend to eat puffer fish and so do humans. Eating fish isn't unusual except puffer fish are fatally poisonous. In Japan they are a delicacy after the poison has been removed but eating them can still be fatal. About 100 diners die each year after eating puffer fish.

It was reported that it was munk fish that was served not pufferfish, but that the fish had a rare form of bacteria that sometimes is found in fish in the med but it is not normal. There was no way of knowing the fish was infected. This was reported in the cyprus today just a week after it had happened.

Am always very wary of eating fish out unless I am absolutely sure they are fresh, (which is quite hard to know), one bad prawn & a friend of mine had a completely ruined holiday, as Spider said above! There was also an article in Cyprus Today last wk about salmonella at a wedding here all the guests and bride & groom who ate the wedding cake were seriously ill! Natx

Its fresh alive . Im really sorry for these people to experience what they did but rest assured the doctor who trated them will not let it go until the matter is resolved. | Batterboy, neither are cats and rabbits until you butcher and prepare them, that's why they leave the heads on, A fish fillet is a fish fillet. In the merchant navy it was left to the chinese to get the puffer ready for eating |

As monkfish is a scavenger, and cleans up the seabed, it is possible that it had eaten puffer fish leftovers. The weather was warmer than normal at the time, and it is possible that puffer fish had found their way here. I see this as an unfortunate incident, that neither the restauranteur nor the supplier could be blamed for. Have you any idea how the owner of the restaurant felt? It was enough to ruin his business totally. On the other hand, it does not mean that I don't feel very sorry for the poor tourists that suffered, and had there holiday turn into a holiday in hell, never to return.

littlejohn I admire your support of local establishments, but sometimes that can be counter productive,If nothing is wrong then it doesnt need fixing. if you are going to help sue everyone who says they had foodpoisoning from such and such a place ,then you are going to be busy. What next ,you gonna help sue everyone who says such and such a supermarket shortchanged them. People will accept these things, but not being told they shouldnt mention it or it didnt happen. This BB , I hope is not reverting to the old days ,where as regards the trnc ,the Princess Diana syndrome applied. After she died, anyone who said she was less than perfect, or didnt agree that some potato or cloud was in her image, or that she was a saint, was in danger of being lynched.
