Hi there, anyone one know if we would incur hassle if after many visits to Northern Cyprus into Ercan we flew into Larnaca and had taxi over the boarder, as it seems much cheaper at present, obviously we have quite a few TRNC stamps in the passport, anyone got first hand experience of this, would be grateful for any assistance.

Many thanks

Triciax

Used Larnaca last September 10 Turkish visas in my passport - no problems, they did have a good look though.

Flew into Larnaca for the first time 3 weeks ago. Every other time gone via Ercan. Despite all the bad press I have read on this forum > no problems whatsoever both ways. Just showed our passports and straight through. All very pleasant

Hi Tricia

re msg 1

I'm guessing you have an EU passport - so you just need to make sure that IF you "own" a property in the north, that you don't have anything to "support" that - unless it is pre 74 TR / Foreign deeded.

Just don't call the UN cease fire / Green line a "border" whilst in the south.. ! ;)

mmmmmm What do they call the UN cease fire / Green line in the south ? if not a border.

Having crossed both ways on numerous occasions, i find no issue and the staff to be very cheerful and very efficient.

So if it's not a border, why do they (GC's) check passports and sometimes search baggage?

Strange thing to do at "Not a Border"

Dear Teatime

re msg 14

why do they (GC's) check passports and sometimes search baggage?

Very simple.. Cyprus - to the RoC has no borders.. only the Med..... The RoC Police / Customs are carrying out EU required immigration customs checks - at the first opportunity - as they do not have effective control of 37% of the island...

"Crossing point", "Green line" ? ! .. just like the UK / EU / EU.. call it .. ( EU's Green Line Regulations ?!... to deal with crossing points -as they are not a frontier - [but the first point at which the recognised govt can carry out effective control])

Knew you would have an answer!

"Cyprus - to the RoC has no borders.. only the Med"

Exactly, that's just how arrogant the RoC is, the sooner they get it into their heads that there IS a Border to the north of the island, the better. If it is not a Border, why do they restrict free trade from the north? No need to answer, because we all know why they do it, to supress their 'so called' fellow countrymen as much as they possibly can.

mmmmmm enough!

Every morning I cross the BORDER from England into Wales.

Every evening I cross the BORDER back again going home.

The word is accepted as the division between the two countries which are both part of the same island as is , eg. the BORDER between Cheshire and Staffordshire.

Oxford English carries a number of possibilities but I think that " a distinct edge round anything" is quite appropriate and the only one needed in this case.

FACTS time.. ( except if the EU, UN and therefore UK, IRL, etc all respect the UN Security Council resolutions and the current situation is that the only recognised govt is the RoC..

The "border" isn't a border - it's just the place where the recognised govt stops exercising effective control..This ain't "GC propaganda"..

The resctrictions on trade are EU approved and in conjunction with the outstanding UN resolutions

Dear Breezyboy re 19

I totally agree with you - but as there is only one country as far as the UN / EU etc are concerned - you might "get it"..

I hasten to add that I warned the OP ( original poster) to be careful not to call it a border in the "rump RoC"...

You reaction is the counter to the one they would expect in the "rump" RoC and exactly WHY I warn folk...

...............Anyway, we always come into Larnaca and cross the 'border' no problem, we don't even get out of the car for them to check passports, the taxi driver does that.

Agreed Britvick, so I'll just carry on calling it a border, as Breezyboy said about the border between England and Wales and Scotland, I cross these Borders and don't even need a passport and they are still BORDERS!!!

As for borders, I can't understand why you pay a toll to cross the Severn Bridge INTO Wales, but it's free coming back!!

Okay Taffies, have a pop!!

Arthur- I think the Severn Bridge should be the other way round to keep them in.

My crossing is in North Wales with the only form of defence being the Dee. Incidentally it is still law that if you catch a Welshman within the City walls of Chester after dark you can shoot him...with a bow and arrow!
