Just been to see a man who fell down his stairs last week and is unable to go to Girne Hopsital to pick up his prescription for insulin. Does anyone in the Lapta / Karsiyaka / Alsancak have some they could give me a loan of with some needles just until he is able to get out again.

Thank you so much. Chris

Yorgozlu

Thank you so much for that, I would do this myself but the problem is he lives in an australian type house and cannot get down the stairs. He fell last week and as he is diabetic any sores will take forever to heal. Only found out last night from a nice neighbour of his, as the neighbour would take him to the hospital also. Thank for thinking of this though.

Is it not possible that someone with his passport cannot go to the hospital to collect his prescription explaining the circumstances?

Hi Richard,

Taking hubby at 6pm to see Dr in Girne, if nothing comes up in the meantime will try that and get my Dr friend to phone the hospital and explain the circumstances.

Hi Sheila,

he has enough insulin to keep him going until the morning, and I have some hypo-stop that I can use in an emergency. But thank you anyway. As I said to Richard taking hubby to see a Dr friend at 6pm so will get him involved as well. Hubby has tennis elbow !! doesn't stop him playing golf though. When he gets this hydrocortisone injection he will know what pain is, don't think he will ever grumble again !!!!

Hope you are feeling better today, and drinking plenty of liquids, don't want you going down with heatstroke and dehydration.

Just back from Girne hospital got the insulin but what a palavar.

For anyone who need insulin this is what you do. You go to admissions with the insulin book, they give you a yellow slip of paper which is stamped. You then are sent to a Dr who writes the prescription which you then take to the pharmacy in the hospital and you then get your insulin 20tl for 2 vials plus needles so good value. Sounds easy but took me half an hour. Plus every eegit was on the road today between Girne and Lapta.

So thanks once again for all the offers of help yesterday.

Whilst I commend your actions, aren't they illegal so to speak. Unless you are of course a registered nurse here in the TRNC. Being one in UK doesn't count over here

Godzilla regardless of where Nurseawful is registered she was helping a neighbour in need. Knowing Nurseawful both socially and professionally she would never let anyone in need down, and she is a first class nurse. Just remember there may be a day when you will be glad that she is on this forum, she has too many skills to let them go to waste.

Godzilla, I don't think that the good samaritan was nursing just doing what any decent human being should do for any other human being.

Nurseawful has done what I would try to do (even though I am not qualified) that is just to help someone in need without thought about colour, race or creed.

Godzilla AKA Jenny,

tell you what next time someone needs help you do it !!!! Unpaid And no matter where you are in the world is it illegal to pick up a prescription for someone else. ???

Believe it or not even after your sarcastic comments I would do it for you if you were in trouble.

I await your response.

You are to congratulated for what you have done to help this unfortunate man. I can fully understand the urgency when dealing with insulin dependancy. It does not take too long for serious complications to set in when regular injections are missed. You have probably saved this man's life.

Therefore Godzilla AKA Jenny, you should applaude and praise the unpaid, unrewarded actions of others, not call into question their motives. Just hope that if you are taken ill that NURSEAWFUL is in the neighborhood.

Thank you nurseawful for restoring my faith in people. I know there are some lovely, kind, helpful people out there and you're certainly one of them. I was a pharmacy tech for over 25 years with experience in respiratory, wound care, general surgery, cancer care, even psychiatry so if you need any help I'll do what I can. Keep up the brilliant work and I'm sure this gentelamn is so pleased you're on this island

If you go to the Beladyesi ( spelling ) in Girne they have a service where they come to your home to give medicals or deliver and COLLECT PRESCRIPTIONS or medical requirments.

First office on the right as you go in the door.

Carndi, I did not know that, is that just for Girne or will they cover Lapta as well? Unfortunately I really don't think they do this with Insulin, my understading is that you have to get it from a hospital.

Also I believe that the health centre in Lapta have nurses who will check on people who are old and infirm so maybe the same kind of service as Girne offer.

Well done Nurseawful, your someone we should all be very proud of, My hubby is an insulin dependant diabetic, so I know only to well the consequences of not taking regular insulin, as hypo's come on very swiftly, and if this gentleman lives alone, what could of happened to him does not bear thinking about, keep up the good work

Response: I DID commend Nurseawful for her actions. My concern would be if you were administering something to another person and something went wrong, (god forbid of course), what would u do?

I do not administer things to people either paid or unpaid so there is no need for a work permit. And when things go wrong Godzilla that is what I am trained for to sort them out! Hope this answers all your questions.

Have a nice day.

David thanks for that but I will be keeping an eye on the said gentleman in future to make sure that he is never again in a position where he has no syringes or insulin.

And can I also say that I am not the one who should be getting all the praise here if it was not for the neighbours I would not of heard of this mans plight.

neighbours you know who you are and I am quite sure you would not want me to put your names on the forum but you are the real hero's not me. But WTF Sean & Carol you deserve the praise.
