| My son wants to bring his guitar to cyprus on holidays. Is it very expensive to bring it and can it be carried onto the plane or do I have to check it in? (Pegusus) I'd be grateful if anyone can help me as I'm debating whether he should if it costs me a fortune! |

| Hi, Hope he has case for it! You would need to check it in as normal, and this would be part of you baggage allowance, then probably take it to the oversize bag deposit. If you are already up to your linit then you would need to pay for excess, the price is on there website. |

| The funny (?) side of this story is that because United Airlines initially ignored his claim for a $3500 guitar, he came up with this video. It has now had nearly 4m hits on UTube and the bad press has reduced United Airlines stock value by $180m!! If only we could do this with KTHY!! Rob |

| I would suggest a very robust hard case and plenty of fragile stickers attached, sometimes the likes of BA would allow guitars on as hand luggage and would then put them in the 'suit' cupboard down at the front of the plane. Others like CTA have allowed me on with a guitar in a soft case and have allocated an overhead locker and one of the cabin crew would stop others from putting their hand luggage into the same locker. But with all airlines check your guitar in via the 'Fragile' check in. I have also had my favourite guitar put into the hold with CTA and have never had a problem. | Similar would apply pack well mark and have handlesd as fragile and read the airlines nonditions - do not forget it could be trundled about quite a lot so protective foam may be wise inside the boxes. It is not very likely that "this way up" will work either! |

| Hi poetryanne. .
Forget the fact that it is a guitar. . . . Then you will check it in as a piece of luggage. . . Goes into the plane's cargo hold. . . . As part of your luggage. Simple.
If you want to take it into the plane. . . . . Question is will it fit in the overhead locker? And will the person at check in let you do this? . . . . Who knows? . . . Simply solution, buy a flight case. . . . You can pick one up on ebay for less than 50 quid. Weighs about 16 kg's . . . Throw it in the plane's cargo hold. . . No arguement. . . . Ps i don't advise anyone to ship musical instruments in anything less than a case designed for the job. . . . . As for united airlines. . . . I bet they don't either. . . . Very funny. . . CTA brought my piano. . . Not a scratch. . . . Just write in Turkish . . . Handle with care. . . In Red letters. . . . Very large letters. . . . |

| Assume the best. . . Expect the worst and you won't be disappointed. . . . In fact i wrapped my flight case in industrial bubble wrap. . . If you are reading this Steve, yes i still owe you beer. . . Ha ha . . . CTA cargo, . . Bless them. . . . DIKKAT KIRILACAK = fragile. . . . . |

| The key words here are HOLIDAY and ELECTRIC It would seem rather pointless to me to take an electric guitar on holiday without an amplifier to play it through which poses more logistical problems. John |

| I will be carrying my acoustic guitar to NC soon. I havnet chose airlines yet. Either LOT from Warsaw to LCA or some TC or Turkish airlines to Ercan. I think I would take for sure my instrument as a cabin baggage. I saw few times in LOT airlines a passengers with guitars or violins in the case or soft bags. Crew were puting it to overhead slots or to the mentioned wardrobe in the front of aircraft. I dont know how it is with Turkish Airlines or TC airlines coz Im usually travelling to LCA when Im coming to NC. |

| Hi there What sort of case was it in and how did you present it at the checkin ....or not? I don't want to take it to the plane for them to say no because it doesn't fit in the overhead lockers. |

| I've had a reply at last from Pegusus to my query over carrying the guitar on board.Thought you might like to see their reply- It is not possible to carry your musical instrument with you inside the cabin. You can carry it in the hold part of the aircraft together with other baggages as checked baggage. However, if accepted as checked baggage, Pegasus Airlines is not liable for the loss of, damage to or delay in delivery to a fragile or perishable items included in customers' baggage and your musical instrument with or without the knowledge of Pegasus Airlines. Therefore you may want to make special insurance to your instrument. |

| Message 24 - a straight and open answer as I would expect also see msg 7 in this regard. Msg 25 Rob - it would not even raise a smile 1] I'm sure they may have heard of it 2] They know that if someone did the same to them it would not cause more than a blip on their bookings |

| Tom re msg 25 That's what United thought, until they lost over $180m in stock value. Look how BA lost £10's m's in bookings after the Terminal 5 fiasco. Airlines are not immune to bad press, it can often decimate them. Sorry,.... playing 'Devils Advocate' here. I know you help a lot of people get good deals and I respect that. May yet use you myself,..... if you'll have me! Rob |

| Rob Msg 26 - I know that but compare the size of the problem with the two major airlines and Pegasus - look at all the bad press that KTHY gets on here and it stops very few booking with them. No one is immune to bad press but some thrive on it like Ryan Air. Why would I not want to help you? I am not so sure about the concept of having you in at least two of the slang concepts that come to mind. |
