not sure how this would affect "skype out" though...

you can at the moment call free to another skype-loaded pc using the internet,

or your pc can connect to "skype out" which costs about 1.4 pence/minute

this latter is to overseas landline 'phones, although again the quality is not perfect

but of course you can also use it to make domestic calls if you haven't got a line

on the other hand since we are now reliably informed by the hellenic association

that russia has somewhat surprisingly emerged as turkey's new "best friend",

perhaps the authorities over there will waive any new restriction

Maybe this has a bearing on why Skype is up for sale - any Russian oligarch takers?

Re msg 1

Ooops!

Another example of Russian protectionism at work in the recession..

I've had three Fedex deliveries turned back by Ru customs for "silly" reasons, and lots of foreign cos can't get kit in due to "red tape"..

Skype banning would presumably mean "blocking"- as in some middle east states - something that a good Virtual Private Network, or using Sat internet can EASILY circumvent...

If SKYPE was blocked the Russians will just keep swapping to another service that isn't...

If SKYPE is blocked, then SKYPE out won't work, either, as it goes via the net until at the PSTN ( telephone service) in the locality of the destination call

If your SKYPE-SKYPE calls ain't "perfect" it is more often than not the speed of network connect one of you has..

Lastly, as "TRNC" use a TR based IP range - unless you are connected via Satellite - I doubt any "Hellenic association" could help ! .. May be AJ's notion that TR and Ru are becoming bosom buddies can
