wanderer message 1: it is not entirely clear from the article that angela merkel really did say that whether such a remark is even true at all entirely depends on your viewpoint for revealing and different perpectives on the talks... go to "frank and joan" via google, enter "news" and read the extensive diary entries for 22nd july

But Jack Straw did! . Say the south shouldn't have been allowed in . . Then lost his job. . . And look where he is now. . . A day in politics is a long day. . . . Who said that? To the back!

Hmm I read it as Mr Erdogan says Mrs Merkel says... Chinese whispers ?! Andre_514 Re "Frank and Joan" The page you wish us to look at is : http://www.frankandjoan.com/news/2009/jul.htm It is as well the writer concedes that his posts are merely his opinions - as he / she (selectively ?) forgot the CY Mail article from earlier in the month where the RoC president admits the mistakes some GCs / Greeks made. The analysis of the situation refers to dithering by the UK/ US, when most who are really clued up would know that the US were playing off GR and TR against each other - anything - as long as they kept their bases and the Soviets out. I also note that they are leaving the island and hope that the personal reasons aren't health related. http://www.frankandjoan.com/our_villa_is_for_sale/index.php

mark, you make some good points but the two articles side-by-side illustrate something central to this most complex of the world's disputes: everything depends on your viewpoint if it is really true as the one report claims sampson planned to annihilate the tc's while the greek cypriots still think only in terms of an invasion "out of the blue", it fully explains why the sides are "poles apart" this is no building block to anything, except to continue two cypruses as before I would enthusiastically support a deal if the two participants are in step and am even beginning to think the property question is open to compromise, perhaps a of mix enhanced compensation with a soupcon of restitution but for the north to surrender its vital guarantee/turkish army protection? not now, not in any foreseeable future, and not in a month of fridays you don't seriously believe it either, I'm sure but if you did you are only proving my point: multiple viewpoints are inevitable

Dear Andre_514 re msg 6 I may get through eventually.. N.Ireland - up until recently - had a two guys at the top of the tree - in charge of the autonomous region - who had HATED each others cause - they surprised most folk and me - by making things work. Things can't and won't stay as they are as TR can't afford it. The GCs will have to compromise on the expectations past leaders have ( foolishly) led them to believe to expect. I'm actually being more pragmatic than you !
