In case you did not know. Yesterday Riaz from Jashan`s and Oleander has taken over this establishment, so for all you indian food lovers that live Lapta end, you wont have so far to drive now.

That's great news, Punjab was great but with Riaz in charge it can only get better.

Does this mean we get the same crap service we got at Jashans ?

Or are we going to continue to get the excellent service and food we have come to expect at the Punjab ?

Have to say have found the standard of Idian food here fairly poor, and on a couple of occasions dire, Had a take away recently , I wont name names on the forum I personally find that a bit dirty, The Parathas, rice, and portion sizes could not be faulted, but the main items Ie the currys, did not tase anything like a curry, total lack of ,the main spices, There is no excuse for it in fact they shouild taste better than the UK due to the superb taste of the basic ingredients here, It could be the style of cooking, as far as I know the Indian restaurants here are Pakistani , as opposed to the majority in the UK, being Bengali, We lived in Wolverhampton so I suppose being spoiled for choice springs to mind, It really is very easy to make a first rate Curry, but you also need to know your spices, and bear in mind they vary in strength and flavour etc. Havn,t tried many Indians here, and my opinion is just based on the ones I have tried,

I've gone right off curry since seeing a UK TV programme 'Whats in your food' recently. A main supplier was shown to use a powder mixed with water containing all sorts of waste meat products (including beef & pork) that is used to bulk up chicken. Just shows that we really don't know what's in the food we eat.

Johnny - When did you go there? Riaz only took it over on Saturday, so if it was before it would have been the old owners. Give him a chance and try again now he is there.

Message 7 I agree that the service in the Punjab was second to none. But I personaly have found the service in Jashans to be excellent, as is the food. The Punjab we tried twice and never again starters were just about passable but the main courses were the worst I have had anywhere in the world.

So good luck Riaz we will see you soon.

Hi Whistler, I havn,t been to Punjab, I will give it a try I am a bit of a stickler when it comes to my Indian food. and I will always give someone a second chance, the restaurant I was on about was not the Punjab, and I did go back to the place I was talking about and took friends. I explained to the owner and he was extremley helpful, looked after us well, and it was an improvment, But still lacking, My worst experience of Indian food here was some Samosas, and pakora purchased on a market, they where a disgrace, and not cheap, I think they had forgot to put any filling in the pastry, or the pakora mix, we would normally make our own, but we thought we,d give it a try, We will try Punjab, and I will give you my opinion,
