Hi could anyone advise us if a Sky HD box will work in NC? We are arriving mid Sept and wish to know if we should cancel our subscription or can we get all the original English progs using a sat dish bought and setup in NC?

There have been numerous posts on this subject. Try searching for Sky TV in the search box at the top of the page to bring them up. If I remember rightly you can bring a Sky+ box so long as you have had a subscription for at least 12 months and keep up the UK subscription.

you can get all the channels if you have a 4.5 meter dish fitted or about half if you only go for a 1.8 meter. thats the problem in cyprus its outside the focal footprint for astra 2A that sky use. im having nilesat installed only need 90cm dish and no heart attack when you find out how much it will cost to get your sky hd working andy

You will get most HD channels but not BBC1HD with a 4.2 metre dish.

Hi Straybearx! ..and thx to all the folks ;) In Cyprus Astra 2 D ( not A, Andy !! is the important satellite - it broadcasts most Free ( non subscription) content from the BBC/ ITV, etc To get that RELIABLY a good, well installed Jonsa 4.2M is necessary.... I don't offer a service in "TRNC" but recommend a fellow installer...the ICEMAN.. ( http://www.skycyprus.com ) I wouldn't cancel your UK sub.. but I would try and upgrade to HD... as the channels are STRONGER.. c4 - for example. With a good 1.8m ( not SO expensive, Andy) you will get many HD channels but NOT the BBCs/ ITVs of this world.... but MOST SKY stuff - and you can record.... remember all the good stuff is on LATE in CY !! ;) Finally, you can get a 1m dish - don't go less - when it rains you'll know why! ..and get six watchable channels from Nilesat for free. Feel free to send me an email - look at my profile.. Good luck Mark
