Does anyone know if you have to pay for a hospital stay in Northern Cyprus before you leave the hospital or how it works? How much would it cost for a one week stay (approx)?

Yes you need to pay for any stay in hospital before you leave. A copy of your passport will be taken and failure to pay will mean that immigration are informed and you will be stopped from leaving until your bill is settled.

Costs vary and are dependant on what you are in for.

Netti,a month or so ago,I was rushed to Girne hospital with a suspected stroke.Within 5 mins examined by a doctor, and had an ambulance with sirens blazing to Lefkosa hospital.Scan, instant doctor attendance,drugs,2 nights intensive care, 2 more nights general ward, drugs from morn to night, and meals.Lovely nurses.

I think I paid Tl160!!!!!

Could still have been on a trolley awaiting to see a doctor in UK.

Downside?Local residents have LOTS of visitors any time!!!So go with the flow.

Netti,

I had a accident breaking my ankle back Feb rushed to Mägusa State Hospital( may I say 5 min wait for Ambulance -ca 10 min wait before the being attended to from the Chirurg excellent service.. was stationed for 7 days, operated. visiting times for the family members 24 hours ,food was excellent. You pay your bill when the Doctor discharges you with all the paperwork you receave from the Doctor at the Hospital you have to go to the Administrations Office in the Hospiltal pay your bill in TL they won,t except Credit Card or any other currency.

I did,nt have to show my Passport but I did take it with me just in case!!!

The Bill was 594 TL so you can take this for a e.g

hope this helps you...

Lilli thank you, trouble is they made my foot 2 cm longer!!!!formed it wrong in the plaster Doc discovered all this after they took the plaster off back home 6 weeks later... far to late to repair it so now I have to buy 2 pairs of shoes at different sizes....or try to swap them before I buy them in the shop so you must check every pair before you buy shoes for men if you find different sizes in a box in the shop you know now who was there ..me......

If you're resident here, take your pink/blue book and the charges reduce unbelievably. Both my wife and I have needed AE treatment here, including ambulance for wife, total cost 20tl, for my xray. And no waiting.
