Hope you don't get stopped and have your luggage searched by the Greek policewoman. She obviously did not believe me when I said I had no cigs. or alcohol. My driver was also questioned, although he passes there many times a week!

I use this crossing a lot and everytime I have been searched. On the odd occasion that I have crossed at Metahan I have never been searched.

The police that do the searching are not Greek Cypriot as such but SBA police. They come under the British forces.

re msg 6 Why would a "Greek" be allowed to search you...?! . The SBA employ both Turkish and Greek speaking CYPRIOTS... This is the first place on island where EU regulations re customs and immigration can be enforced. The British trained locals are only doing their job.. Ironically, it is much more lax at the RoC crossing points - even though they have moaned in the past that illegal immigrants come across via the SBA.. When *I* cross on foot my passport is rarely checked - I hold them up ( that of my wife - who should need a Visa / Residency checked ) but we just get waved through.. They are slightly more thorough when arriving in a vehicle. Ooops - back on the specific Q.. You now know it's 24 hrs, but if you are in a "TRNC" reg'd vehicle, you need to have current EU / RoC insurance , etc for the car - going t'other way, one can only buy "TRNC" insurance during "office" hours

Why would they stop a grandmother on her own with a driver who is a regular and everything is in order. Was I just a soft touch, not a big aggressive man who would give her some bother? I did not have anything to hide and she did not believe me. A bit of common sense would be in order. Sorry, this was on the ROC side.

Dear Phylray re msg 10 IF you are - again- referring to being checked at an SBA crossing point - I'll remind you - again - that that is what SHOULD happen at all crossing points.. I know better than to cross via an SBA if I'm in a rush - one isn't in the "rump" RoC until one leaves the SBA - those that check are employed by the BRITISH. Common sense says that those who cross the most should be checked all the more ...

What does SBA stand for mmmm? How can you cross without going through them? Was not in a hurry as it happened as had to wait over 2 hours in Larnaca due to system breakdown & flight to Glasgow 2 1/2 hrs. late! Didn't know that of course.

I've crossed there many times and never been searched, think the butch GC bird was just picking on you phylray, sometimes these people get a kick out of showing their authority. SBA = Sovereign Base Area
