The present situation cannot be wholly put does to GC,s. Take a look at the gutless approach of the British Government and the EU that promised direct flights and free trade, what happened, nothing. I am building a villa and hope to be having lots of time here, I still feel confident that some kind of agreement will be reached between TRNC and RoC, for everyones sake. To jump down the throat of GC,s is understandable, but wrong. A lot of hidden agenda are in operation from Turkey,UK,US,EU and others. Turkey is playing a very clever game with their Oil/Gas pipeline. US is desperate to keep Turkey as a friendly military authority in the middle east, and not move towards Russia. EU shows that a big boys club has the power to ride rough shod over a small non entity as TRNC all in the name of solidarity with RoC. And UK, have lied about every promise and undertaking they have made, including flights. I would also bet 10/1 that Orams will lose judgement in UK courts.

If we had direct flights I doubt if the ones from the regional airports would actually fly. My experience is that barely a 60 people make the flight from the UK to Ercan from Birmingham and Manchester. Apart from one or 2 flights a year from Manchester the service would never pay for itself, or the price for passengers for a direct ticket would have to double, then no one would buy them thus defeating the object again. It would be cheaper to cancel the flight and give everyone their money back than fly it. Most of the seats are filled with passenger for the port of call in Turkey. They are the ones who are really paying for the privilege of those wishing to fly to Ercan.

Timothy I have being saying that for a long time. Others argued that it would open up to competition however I can hardly see any carrier flying to Ercan instead of either Larnaca or Paphos.

On a normal 1500 mile flight the fuel is divided into 3 categories. From Manchester to Alicante an A321 would require 2700 ltrs for takeoff, 2500 for the flight and 2500 for the landing, depending on passenger numbers. So a direct flight to Ercan would save over 5000 ltrs of fuel. How many brownie points would this earn from the Greens? No air staff changeover, no landing fees in Turkey. Do the sums again, maybe even Ryanair or Easyjet could show an interest. If flights were direct then there'd be no need to fly to Larnaca or Paphos, thus filling the seats not taken up by those only going to Turkey

Easyjet already fly to the south and are chaired by a GC so you can rule them out. I cant see many people flying to Ercan standing up with Ryaniar Commercially much of CTA's passengers fly to-from Turkey so I don't really see them wanting to cut that route.
