Some members are experiencing difficulties accessing our forums.

In order for us to diagnose and solve this problem, can those members *only* report which ISP (Internet Service Provider) they are using.

Please post here or email me.

Thanks,

Izzet

Recent posts by rogue GC's maybe the cause of having 'hacked' into this forum. It was 'en mass', please look at some of the threads. I'm on G3 Turkcell and pretty slow and sometimes does not connect at all.

Richard

Izzet Note - That's probably because of connection problem between the 3G modem and Turkcell. If you were to try opening another website, slowness and connection problems would have appeared on those websites as well.

I am on extend ADSL in Famagusta and my connection to C44 is very erratic. However I can connect easily through a proxy (tntProxy.com ).

There appears to have been less members logged in this week at certain "peak" periods. I noticed that over the last couple of days. but I had no problems at all from UK.

I have also accessed the site through 3G on my phone, also OK.

Hi Izzet,

I have 3G and often cannot get on, I assumed it was the slow service of 3G (?).

I am with Extend Broadband, sometimes I am lucky to get through if I google search

Thanks for any help you can give in this matter, even if I do get on I find it difficult to post anything, as it goes back to Internet cannot access this link

Me too, I tried three times yesterday to post a new topic, two went into cyber space even though it said 'message posted successfully'.

I'm also getting a 'time out' when trying to access a thread.

Only a small %age of respondents, but I'm also in the UK and don't have access probs on Linux/ Windows based pcs with any browser platform you car to mention - using either BT / SKY ADSL

It seems from the data so far that the problem is with members on island.

As we can see, access doesn't seem to be a problem for folk south side ;)

We constantly have problems trying to access the site from both office and home, extend adsl. Also trying to post replies to threads can prove to be a real pain, sometimes 6 or 7 attempts.

I dont know if this is the reason but when there are just a few on line you seem able to access the forum, or is this just me thinking this might be the cause.

Yes, many problems with access since you moved hosting companies.

Lots of timeouts and 404's. Sometimes for many hours.

Seems the hosting company servers are either, very busy or, unreliable.

Izzet, if I were you, I would look again

Hmmmmmm

According to access times from the UK, this new server is more reliable actually and faster!

The problem is with Extend I believe.

A year back from now, a similar problem occured with several other websites when their DNS cache was outdated. I'll give them a call now.

Example scenario: Whenever you try to access a page, it goes through 1 of the 10 servers Extend has. 9 servers have correct DNS for cyprus44.com, whereas 1 server holds the old DNS for cyprus44.com. Some 1 out of 10, you try to access the old server (which no longer exists), so you get connectivity errors.

How do you reach Extend?

Their 444 number does not work.

They do not pick up their head office phone.

Their mobile support phone, it says it is no longer in use!

Can anyone help?

If it is a DNS cache issue, what happens when you press F5 on your browser - if you can't connect.. does that help?

I've been having problems for about 3 weeks now.

I emailed 44 on the 17th: "From: Rob

I keep getting 'error website too busy' messages frequently during the last few days, making it almost impossible to log in or post.

My log-in is ROBnJO.

Is it you,... or me?"

Error messages were 408 & 409.

A bit better since then but still happening at times.

Also sometimes when I refresh the BB, everything comes up in large font with any graphics showing the dreaded X.

Refreshing again normally solves this.

I'm on AOL from the UK.

Ok for all of those with access problems, for the time being you might want to try access via 'tntproxy.com'

Both myself and Elko are using this method and have had no problems so far.

Just log on and scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will find a box with a Google search window and below that there will be another window that will already have ' http://www.' in it and all you have to do is add 'cyprus44.com', hit enter and then once on the Cyprus44 home page just select the 'Forums' tab at the top and then log in as normal.

For IT people, you can always use better DNS services rather than depending on your ISP to update their DNS cache all the time.

For more info:

http://www.opendns.com

Click on "USE OPENDNS" on the top menu for step by step instructions.

Izzet

P.S. I use OpenDNS and I have no connection problems at all.

Extend users - If you are still experiencing problems, please call Extend broadband and tell them you are unable to reach Cyprus44.com

If we can get a few more people to call, I think they will take this seriously and will fix it sooner.

Well,

I've rung 'em, got a load of old guff of course - they appear to 'not know' what is causing the problem - but I suggest that all Extend (and any other users) customers who are having this issue do as Izzet suggests, and keep ringing 'em!

I just want to confirm that I had Cyprus44.com checked by the upper level technical support team from my hosting company. They checked all website configurations and there was nothing wrong from their end.

I am also connecting fine to Cyprus44 myself - zero problems.

I know all UK users are connecting fine.

Considering all above, if you are experiencing problems connecting to Cyprus44, please speak to your Internet Service Provider.

Izzet - That's connection problem as well, as the styling sheet for the website is a different file then the content and when you see things funny, it means your browser could not get the styling sheet.

I am on o2 in the uk and I am getting so dissapointed in posts I make getting deleted as I press the "post reply" button.

You press the button when you have typed your reply for a pop up box to tell you "not connected"

and the post has been wiped, I just can't be bothered to retype the post ...Grrrrrrrrrr

Izzet - what kind of pop up box? This is not something Cyprus44 can do.

Cannot connect through eXtend, but when I try through my VPN, no problems!

So, it is a problem with eXtend, but this is Cyprus, and they will suggest I re-boot, or open IE again, or ask me to check what Firewalls I have, or did I eat THREE Shredded Wheat for breakfast.

In fact anything as long as it's nothing to do with them.

i'm on extend dial up and always having problems. with cyp 44 i keep getting error when trying to post and i get drop out, i can't always see all the title or who posted it etc. and although i do have general problems getting into various sites my main problem is with 44. i've given up trying to complain to extend as they always blame my phone line but there is nothing wrong with it.

After some testing, I realised that Extend users are having problems connecting to all websites hosted by FastHosts company.

FastHosts (www.fasthosts.co.uk ) holds one of the the largest networks in the UK.

Their website says that, they host "more websites than any other provider"

That means, Extend users cannot connect to over 1,000,000 websites and may be more.

I feel that this is a major network issue.

If you can't open Cyprus44.com, you will also have trouble accessing http://www.FastHosts.co.uk

My daily task is calling Extend to ask for solution, but to no avail.

I would appreciate if more and more members call them, and insist that it is problem from their end!

Thanks,

Izzet

They're getting worse!

Just tried to access Cyprus 44 via Extend, and got the message "Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)"

Needless to say, there's no one there to answer the 'phone...

Hi Izzet,

Used to have a problem with Extend getting 44, Digital Supreme connection, and just simply contacting them, in the end gave up switched to Nethouse Networks 1024 speed, last February, and have never looked back, its brilliant, so the problem had to be with Extend, just could,nt get them to acknowledge it.

Hi,

I have just posted a topic reference my Internet provider (SunnyCyprus) complaining about poor connection problems. Your problem is not a problem accessing Cyprus44 but a problem with the Internet Service Providers connection. If your are experiencing problems accessing Cyprus44 you will probably find you will have problems accessing any web page.

Any SunnyCyprus users please see my topic.

I spoke to Mr. Ozcan from technical team today.

They are aware that the problem is from their end.

He said that they checked everything they could from their Cyprus office, but the problem it seems to be from their connection to the world via Istanbul. They are suspecting that their firewall in Istanbul is blocking the traffic to FastHosts server.

He said he is not sure when it will be fixed, nor exactly which node is causing the problem.

I said I will be bugging him every few days or so.

godzilla,

it's a little database trick, that's how they make a 'sticky' posting stay at the top - they just manually enter a 'future' date and time, then it stays there until that date, before sliding down the page...

Izzet - This was a temporary thing from our server which was addressed on another thread and fixed now. Just wanted to edit this msg so it does not confuse anyone. The problem is with Extend and it continues.

Experiencing problems accessing 44 with extend. tends to be no logical reason or timing ,sometimes cuts out when logged on.

When having difficulty accessing Cyprus 44, try using this site: -

http://www.defilter.co.uk/

It's very quick, and doesn't seem to have the annoying pop-up ads that you get with tntproxy...

Seasider - I see that you only have 7 posts. Are you actively using the forum? Please keep us updated.

As far as we observed, this connectivity issue is very random.

Sometimes, there is no problem for a few hours and the next few hours, it can be very hard to connect to cyprus44.

Thanks,

Izzet

P.S. I sent a message to the owner of Extend over Facebook and asked for help.

I told Deniz at eXtend to contact Izzet, I gave him your email address.

He said the same as you re: specialist firewalls in Turkey to prevent problems.

Do persist with eXtend, get eveyone's name who you speak to, and their extension, or better still, their mobile.

They do listen, and call you back, but ONLY if you push them very hard.

Anyway, working about 95% of the time I try.

PS. maikelapta should be excused his outburst due to the following reasons:

1. Football season has started.

2. Partner nearly here.

3. Birthday boy today.

for anyone who never saw the posting...hhen having difficulty accessing Cyprus 44, try using this site: -

http://www.defilter.co.uk/ - just type cyprus44.com in the box & hit enter - you will get a one page advert, cancel that page, and then you can use the forum as normal with no pop-ups or anything.

Dear All,

I spoke to Mr. Ozcan from technical department again today.

He told me that they could not find a solution to the problem and they are unlikely to find one.

I am giving up hope from Extend.

Their managers are unreachable too!

Fasthosts is one of the most reputable hosting companies in the UK.

They helped us coup with the DOS attacks at reasonable costs.

So, I am in no position to change a hosting company because Extend will not fix their problems.

I suggest Extend users to consider changing their Internet Service Provider.

I am using Superonline ADSL and I am very happy with it.

We use Extend in our office and we are changing this week!

Superonline ADSL is noticeably faster and more reliable. The last downtime was for 2 hours 4-5 months ago.

I can also recommend Sunny Cyprus as a good Internet provider.

They both provide Wireless and ADSL solutions.

Their English support line is better than other ISPs.

Izzet, I have tried to stay out of this but I am afraid that I can't stay silent any longer.

You are criticizing eXtend for a problem with their system and I do not think that it may be a problem with their system.

I have tested your site at DNSstuff.com here is the result:-

http://www.north-cyprus-mail.com - northcyprus44 (7 faults and 2 blacklists)

I would put these errors right before you start to criticize anyone else.

As far as recommending Sunnycyprus - are we really to take you seriously on this are do you just hate extend that much that this is a suggestion made out of irony

As much as I hate to do this but Washerman is right.

Izzet,do you really expect people to change ISP's just to access this site?

It may have escaped your attention but extend user's only have problems accessing this site, they dont have problems accessing any other site on the web.Go figure.

A few months back my daughter in law's web page could not be reached through Extend. It was a DNS problem and they fixed it by entering the details manually. So the problem with C44 is something more sinister. I am an Extend user but I have been accessing C44 through tntproxy and I dont mind the popups, I just ignore them. My subscription ends next April, so I have plenty of time to think about a new ISP.

Izzet. You suggest using ADSL.

Fine I agree - except for 2 big problems. Many people can't get a landline for love nor money & in my experience they wouldn't want one if they could . Once you have a landline here, it is totally unreliable & you can wait for months to get Telefon Dept. to repair it if you are a private customer. I know I've been there. In 7 years our landline has been out of action about 6 times. Out of order in excess of 12 months with no use. But you still have to pay for it each month.

So sorry, what good would ADSL be?

Washerman,

DNSStuff.com is a helpful tool but they show unimportant errors as errors so they can make money.

There is nothing wrong with the DNS of Cyprus44.com.

Everybody except Extend users can access the website fine.

If you use DNSStuff.com on Microsoft.com, it gives 4 warnings and BBC.co.uk gives 2 warnings and 3 blacklists.

-------

I don't expect people to change ISPs. Personally, I do not care!

I am just making a conclusion to this thread, saying that:

1) This is Extend's fault.

2) Extend cannot fix this.

3) A possible solution is to change your ISP.

I am disappointed that Extend is not respecting some 20 calls from their users every day, and ignoring this issue.

Extend users - please consider changing your ISP instead of sending me an email that you cannot access Cyprus44. This is not my fault.
