A block of wood and a small hammer used gently will drift the valve collars undone. Reassemble using Vaseline or silicone grease on faces and threads and only hand tighten using a rag.

Could Vaughan from Octopus pools please contact me re pool ballas tank leak, or could anyone else contact me that knows anything about leaks, we think the tank needs sealing, but there could be another leak somewhere else around the garden or whatever, even though we cannot see water escaping. VERY URGENT, 05338401382 Thank you.

Sylvie. Try the following: 1. Click on "TRNC Vaughan" at his above post. 2. Click on his link to his homepage. 3. Scroll down, until you see a telephone number. If that's a bit time consuming, call: 0533 865 83 14. The other number I have for him is: 0533 845 8494, but this is a few years old.

Sylvia We have had a lot of trouble with our balance tank and had the walls re-sealed.This didn't work. The main reason turned out to be the blockage of the non return valve so that water flowed back into the balance tank and out through the overflow. The developers pool "experts" had removed the filter and also there was no mesh guard on the entry point from channels to the balance tank. These have been rectified, this and a belt & braces job of fitting a second non return valve have hopefully cured the problem. The plus side which made us notice this was that 2 palm trees near the overflow have grown so fast, much quicker than others planted at the same time.

We always recommend that new customers of ours have a 2nd check valve fitted in the inlet line as the balance tank check valve is very vulnerable to blockages. You can clean this valve regularly and 5 mins after leaving site it can block again. The 2nd check valve should never block as this is down stream of the filter. However, this 2nd valve should be stripped occasionally and limescale removed from the runners to ensure smooth operation.
