12 tl Kyrenia, 4 tl for students and locals, a rip off for tourists it doesn't cost them more to maintain it than the locals.

Try and tell them you're local/live here but left your passport at home.

if you want to be classed as a local at hilarions then take a copy of your kochan, in your name, unless you have a kimlik card.

i had this argument with them a few weeks ago.

fire starter, you must be trying to get to another planet climbing your way up from St. Hilarion Castle to Uranus, take your passport with the 'temporary visitor' stamp inside and that will suffice.

brin,

our friends were here on holiday and wanted to go there, in the heat it nearly killed me!

the guy on the desk wanted either a kimlik or kochan nothing else would do for him.

i had the arguement and lost, even tried the trnc driving licence he wasn't having any of it.

All I can say to that is you should've walked straight through without paying anything telling them to phone the Police! Never had a problem when my Mother was here 3 months ago. Just be assertive and call their bluff!

Ok if you don't have a mobility problem although I have had two knee replacements and I am 70 I made it up there in January this year, just take your time you can always get back down. Lovely views up there even from the car park.

Why do people object to paying an entrance fee?

I don't object to paying an entrance fee but think everyone should be charged the same, the entrance fee is for the upkeep of the castle but it doesn't cost more for that because you are a tourist.

I have always shown my pink health card (goes with your work permit) and this has always got me 'local price'. I appreciate the cheaper price as I visit these places avery time new visitors come. Which would add up if it was full price every time!

sissy, when you get near the top the steps are so small you can hardly get your foot on them. If you get to the top, the very top where the masts are, the view is worth the effort. Only done it once though.

In many countries "locals" pay less. The tourists are paying the "normal" rate, the locals pay a subsidised rate. It happens in the UK.

Possibly this is because locals pay taxes that go towards paying for the upkeep.

It's not that the tourists are ripped-off. It's good value.

Was there week 1-8th August and went to St Hilarion and Girne Castle, looking at my tickets now they don't specify which is which but one entrance fee was 7tl and the other 12tl. St Hilarion is a lovely place and we managed to park in the small car park right near the entrance but we got there quite early and was asked to move the car by a tour rep just a little so the coach could have room to turn around. Turned out to be a nonsense because when we came out another coach had parked right across and took up other parking spaces. You can park further down the hill and suggest flat shoes that grip. Nice place to sit and look at the views from the gift shop. I could have sat there all day it was breezy and cool.

We also paid 2tl for the car park down by the Rocks Hotel. We refused to pay anything at the Bellapais Car Park as knowing it used to be free I cannot see how they can justify asking tourists to contribute to their local football club. We parked for free down the hill.
