Getting feedback that there are more and more Russians are buying properties in North Cyprus , wonder how they handle any negatives arising from any property purchase ?.

Hi Plectrum

Folk from the FSU states need Visas to come to the "rump" Roc

The decision of the govt to give Russians FREE Tourist visas shows they miss 'em - as numbers fell when Visas got harder to obtain - as part of the EU.

However, not all "Russians" are Russian .. Ukrainians, and other FSU states are often lumped in as Russian - because of the language they speak .

There is even a "north" Cyprus Russian Lang forum, now.

BUT..

Just like folk from the UK, one can't fly direct from Russia - but I guess one can fly via Azerbaijan?!

Do I see the numbers approaching the "south"? .. Wealthy Russians have no problem getting temporary residency in the "rump" RoC.. There is an infrastructure of shops, Newspapers, radio and most importantly "biziness"

Many Russians - despite having Muslim regions have a "thing" about Muslims - they come to TR on all inclusive deals and many stay within the complex :(

They feel more comfortable in a perceived Orthodox envi

We popped into an estate agent recently and the lady who greeted us was a Russian/Turk. Spoke hardly any English and was there to only deal with Russian buyers. Coming in thick and fast apparantly!

Interesting to see how the GC lawyers will deal with trying to bulldoze their homes.....

Hi Plectrum,

Actually at the Reserve now and a lovely place it is, sitting around the pool and under the pergola with at least 8 Russian families, why not come and joint us and see for yourself. Oh by the way they are all owners.

Dear RedAlabama

Statistically, the Russian speakers in Cyprus are most likely NOT to be Russian.. They are most often from Azerbaijan - the language is very similar to Turkish.

My Wife was surprised during her first visit to the"dark side" [ bet you didn't know THAT is how the many GCs and ex-pats refer to the "north" ) ] to have the menu translated from English to Russian by a very Turkish looking gentleman who explained the link !

When I see the menus in Bars / Restaurants in Russian throughout "TRNC" - I start to believe "the Russians are coming" ;)

The average Russian is having it JUST as bad ( recession -wise) - if not worse, than the UK :(

Last time in NC I saw no Russians. This time I saw a Russian family on Algadi beach, one Russian viewed vacant flats in my apartment block and another was working in the local flower shop.

Dear Stewart

Just about EVERY estate agent in "rump" RoC has a Russian lang version of their website - it still doesn't mean Russian speakers will *buy* in any volume !

Really, are things SO bad over there that you are hoping Russian speakers are going to inject life into the property market ?

Prices of real estate in UA / RU aren't exactly rocketing .

Its nice to hear that they are selling now mainly to Russions and people from Israel. We will have a good mix of nationalities rather than being invaded by the British.

With the Brits not buying property in the TRNC, the local estate agencies have all gone to look for new markets. Obviously Russia as a whole, the ex soviet union is a huge fresh market for TRNC estate agencies.

I do not think there will be a huge influx as there is in the south side. Mostly the russians went south to launder their money. I have heard there are morem than 60000 russians living on the south side.

There are about 3 "Russian" families ,maybe more, on Kavanlar phase 2. They all make a point of saying hello even if thats the only word that they know . When i'm out i always try to speak to whoever is there , hello and a smile does wonders!!

Alexandra Kononova – Russian Client Liaison Negotiator

Originally, I come from Belarus where I completed my higher education. During the years of my studies I had a great chance to visit many exciting places in the world and I was lucky to have working experience in some companies in Great Britain and the USA.

However I have discovered to my surprise that recently, I have been longing to live in a country with a mild warm climate somewhere close to the seaside. So when I had a chance to go to Northern Cyprus to continue my post-graduate education, I didn’t hesitate for a moment.

So I’m here now enjoying my stay in this Mediterranean area with its marvellous nature surroundings, warm sea waters, mild climate and delicious food.

Recently, I have been employed by Fraser Meridies to liaise and assist with our Russian clients and the Russian Market. I am here to help you find a great investment, or your ideal home in this beautiful island. Please feel free to contact me at alexa
