Can anyone name the paper which stated "power cuts are going to be a thing of the past, they will get fewer and for a shorter time period time only, also they will only be off while they are re-connecting cables, Well this last week we have been off more than we have been on, so its getting worse not better. Can't they get anything right, in this heat and without power is ridiculous We wonder why more people are leaving and going back to the UK Well thats got that off my chest. Sheila

Sheila - I do feel sorry for you, I really do in that heat, but (and this should cheer you up) "power cuts will become a thing of the past" was being touted some 19-20 years ago, along with "direct flights next year" However, I will say the situation has improved immensley over the years, although I appreciate that's little consolation to you at the moment!! Good luck P & J

Just a thought. With all these power cuts the revenue of Kibtec will be lower than expected. Will this lead to a price rise to compnesate for the shortfall?

Fire Starter I have been out in the car even a drive round with the a/c on full blast is great, but not slept in it as yet, good idea. Chris its awful especially with no water and no power god its enough to turn you to drink ) Bridie we cant stand this constant HUMID heat its not normal, I was in Thailand where it is even hotter but it was not this humid heat so it was bearable. If I was on the Celebrity Jungle with Ant and Dec I would be saying get me out of here, sheila

I have lived here for a great number of years, and in the South too. We have high humidity here most years, whereas it is drier in the South. I tend to stay indoors during the heat, whereas I used to spend all day in the sun for my job. This is a hot island and getting hotter. I knew what I was coming to so put up with it. We all have our problems in the heat, but who wants to hear about it. I remember when I lived in Uk, people spent all their time moaning about the weather.Let us all thank our maker that we are fit and well, and can still go about our business. We used to have power cuts every day for long periods of time, and no one had aircon. We lay on our beds at night on towels and had a towel round the neck to keep cool. The electricity was off most evenings, and we had no TV!!

Thank you for reminding me of how nice the rain falling outside the office window is. (17.8 outside and 20.2 inside at midday in the Forest of Dean)) I love North Cyprus but I also love England but who can blame the swallows? Mind you (those out in the TRNC in this heat) why not ask some of your Cypriot neighbours how they cope and publish their answers on this thread?

msg 13; firestarter your message made me laugh and brought back memories of 7 years ago of our first power cut, during the winter. No one told us how cold it would be and living up in the mountains in Bellapais, my goodness, did we freeze. After 4 hours we went and sat in the car with the heating on, the duvet, a packet of crisps, a bar of chocolate and a bottle of red wine!!!!

I agree! We have had power cuts/no water nearly every afternoon/evening for over a week now, it is a real nightmare! Always happens when you have just started cooking or were about to take a shower! Fill up on empty bottles of tap water for emergencies, keep the ice box filled for a cool drink & get some mozzy repellant candles to sit out on your balcony/terrace, one good thing it has got all the neighbours talking even more over our balconies! & yes to look on the bright side the electric bill for this month should be cheaper ;0) Natx

Hi Nat Not sure about the electric bills being cheaper, when the power is ON I put the a/c on to cool the place down, just in cae its goes off again and the place is a bit cooler. I have no breeze whatsover on my balcony, always got loads of froezen bottles of water to drink, but you get so peeved when it goes off just when you want a shower or as you say start to cook. Keep cool. Sheila )

Heard a rumour today that the reason we are having these power cuts is that the power station has run out of fuel. There was a tanker type vessel went past Lapta at about 3.30 today and oddly enough the power came on at about 4.45. Makes you think doesn't it?!!

We had so many power cuts last week and was told it was due to the weather conditions, thunder lightening (not to mention hailstones like golf balls raining down on us!) Kyrenia was not affected nearly so much as us in TBV near Esentepe.
