If the cabin staff went on strike you'd not notice any difference except you'd be saved the incomprehensible safety lecture.

Just to ensure accuracy, my wife Libby, who worked at Polaktan Travel, did not quit, she received an email saying her services were no longer required. They have been cutting back (fired the cleaner a couple of weeks ago) and last in...first out!!

The no planes out of Ercan this morning was nothing to do with the airport .. On good authority from someone flying to Manchester on the 7.00am flight .. It was down to striking customs officials throughout Turkey

So why don't they fly 'non-stop'? Clear the back log accruing just inconveniencing those passengers going to Turkey. Richard

We were informed by Pegaus UK about 45 minutes ago: They had not been officialy advised of a strike in Ercan - the plane arrived in the UK about 120/150 minutes late so the flight due to arrive in Ercan 20.35 tonight might be at least an hour late. We have not been notified by KTHY or Turkish of these problems and we do not know about Thursday as yet.

If KTHY want to fly direct from UK to TRNC they can. Who's going to know if they did or didn't land in Turkey (that is apart from the passengers who were expecting to get off in Turkey). They've done it in the past, so they can do it now. All it takes is a few messages from the Captain to the Air Traffic Controller and the plane can change its flight number mid air.

| Ercan strike, Turkish customs strike oh, what to believe! I feel sorry for those that were/are traveling and caught up in it all! Should have heard (BBC Radio 4) Ryan air's explanation on the debacle at Stansted last Saturday which David Dimbleby was caught up in (not a happy bunny), everybody else's fault except theirs! | msg 22 & 24 Lovely idea but it wouldn't get below the 'radar'. They can only do that in an emergency. KTHY would then probably lose all Landing & Take off rights in any other Intnl airport, incl UK. Not trying to piss on anyones bonfire. Rob ;-( |

Wrong, they fly into Turkish airspace dip below radar level (pretending to land but don't) change flight Nos. and up again to Ercan! Simple! Richard

Richard Sorry, I should have made it clearer. By 'radar', I didn't mean physical Radar. I meant that even you or I can check T/O & Landing times of practically any flight in the world. Any unusual timings would be noted by Aviation Authorities very rapidly. I'm sure that Greek Traffic Control would take a 'certain' interest!

RODnJO I think you'll find an electronic/electrical blanket from anything flying from Turkey to TRNC, It's Military zone and is deferred to Turkish Military air traffic control. Richard

For a fact that I know of, because I was on said flights, KTHY from Manchester 16th August 2006 and 26th August 2005 from Stansted on the "Red Eye" failed to land in Turkey and flew straight through. The plane circled over Turkey for 20 minutes then changed course to go onto the TRNC. Others on this board can also probably testify to other flights coming straight through.

I have also flown from Stansted to Ercan twice on the night flight without landing in Turkey. Members of my family on three occasions have also flown "direct".

I have just talked to CTA in London for an update on this thread (it took over 1/4 of an hour to get through) and I understand that the strike yesterday put one aircraft back by about four hours (I guess the rest were roughly to time). They do not expect any strike in Ercan today (but there could be more). info@flightholiday.co.uk
