a most successful greek restaurant in athens always house full while their competition looks on, they now have many units all full house and clients queuing to enjoy their kababs

would this restaurant succeed here serving greek specialilities or do they need to use a turkish name serving greek food? infor on this will decide if they need to plunge into kyrenia or stay put

Very little difference between GC and TC food except pork is substituted for lamb here (in most places)

If the food and the atmosphere are good and the pricing reasonable I don't see why it shouldn't succeed. There are differences in Greek and GC and Turkish and TC food. Perhaps it could also attract some business from the south as well taking advantage of the generally lower labour and food/ drink costs here.

Bets of luck

Why not give it a try, we have all different nationalities of food here, so why not Greek

Beware of the plates though they might have more over there to smash

One thing for sure it would be so much cheaper for them this side. Sae Gcs friends the other day they went to starbucks for coffe as you do 7 euro in a plastic cup and serve yourself. They came to us then went to the harbour and paid 20TL for 2 beers a frappe and a coffee. We should encourage them xxxxx

Message 6 - sorry all, but can no longer resist this. I have tried and really hoped that someone else would post, but:

"Giro"?

Surely you would have to pay in Euros, rather than a cheque to cover unemployment? "Gyros" is offered, by me (Old Mother Wick, or whatever).

Come on Brinsley - if someone else had done this, you'd have been on them like a ton of bricks

I would go to a Greek resturant in North Cyprus - so long as price, atmosphere etc ok.

Does anyone know the name of the Greek resturant in Karaoglanoglu?

As long as it did a cooked breakfast and sunday lunch I guess quite a lot of expats would patronise it !! ;-)

I lived in the South for 2 years and must admit that I do miss a good pork kebab, souvlaki etc from time to time.

I would not begrudge you about complaining for the harbour prices, they are disgustingly expensive.

Lucky, they dont charge us for sewege smell

So,we dont go there(ezic is much better and cheaper)

As for Greeks opening a restaurant in the north;(by being encouraged)

Please let me know when its open!I'd like to be the first one in there;

And I wouldnt be going there as customer either.

Salahi

Nothing wrong with Greek cuisine and if cheap and cheerful would make an interesting contrast to the average Turkish fare. It doesn't need to be fronted with Greek workers, just a competent Chef that knows what he/she is doing in the kitchen and understands the Country's dishes . Unfortunately too few restaurants/chefs in TRNC actually have a knowledge outside their own basic understanding of their own ethnic cuisine.

In Tenby Wales set in the city walls there is a greek restaurant serving Keo and south wines Aphrodite etc greek and roc flags

I had a meal there two years ago and the waiter was from by the police station in Girni and it is Turkish owned

The other side of the city wall they run the kebap shop in their true Turkish style .

So its a bit of a Trojan horse with the trojans fooling the greek lovers this time

Then I suppose its no different than" Little Italy "restaurant in Kingston on Thames being run by Hungarians which it is so you cant judge a book by looking at its cover

lol

Why do you think Antis is Greek? I have not really found anywhere more Turkish!! A greek restaurant would be fun.
