Hi Pipie,

There's a place on the right hand side,

opposite the main car park in Girne,

after the fire station road.

Not been in, but seem to have a good selection of wood.

Good luck,

Navek

Be stubburn when you go in. Ask for the price of wood first and then grumble (to yourself). Check the quality of all the wood - even if you are not going to buy it. Shake your head in dismay and mutter a lot under your breath. Go and talk to the girl on the till in the next room. Go back in again and check the wood again. Take about and hour or so wandering around and enjoying yourself.

Then just smile at the tall guy with the mustache - he is helpful anyway - and pick up the wood you want. He will give you a bill for it and you take that through to the girl.

It is good fun if you do it the right way and DON'T COMPLAIN because it is all part of the game. Once you have been once or twice they get to know you and things get more fun. Do not cause them unneccesary work please, its not fair to them!!! I have even had coffee in there so don't run them down on the first visit, it is all about living here.

Try Genc - huge DIY/ builders' supplies next to Unwins/opposite Lemar.

Better to go to Ronnies Furniture - they will make you what you want cheaper than you can probably buy the wood for!

Be aware that all wood you buy here is ready for the carpenter to work on. So it is on the rough side and you will need to work on it first to get it into a fit state to use.

The best item I brought with me was an electric plane and it has been worth its weight in gold to me, smooth wood is easy to produce with it but an electric sander is also a great help as it saves you hours of work.

You can probably buy just as cheap ready made as you can buy wood and then spend hours making it yourself but to be able to look at it and say "I made that" has been worth it to me time and time again. I also worked on the idea that if I made a total co*k of it then winter was coming and I have a wood burning stove - expensive but at least it gets used one way or another. Go on, give it a shot, I did not even know how to make joints three years ago but google is a wonderful thing!!!
