We are coming over in september to sign off and take ownership of our new property. How long should we allow on this visit to get all the essential services hooked up and complete the necessary paperwork ?

Sorry, I dont know the answer nor do I know why the previous two 'contributors' didnt either answer the question or keep their childish comments to themselves. Hopefully some of the members of this board will come up with the information you require. I should add though that gas is only available via cylinders in the TRNC.

Electric - Assuming that Kib Tek have inspected and passed the electric installation, you will need to ensure your contract has been stamped that the duty has been paid. Take copies of your stamped contract and your passport to Kib Tek office and pay deposit. This can all be completed in 1 day, installation is normally done within a couple of days.

Water - take contract to belediye, pay deposit and again normally connected within a coule of days.

hope this helps

For Gas you need to speak to Jetgaz or Intergaz.

The tank must be 3 meters from your property and 3 meters from a boundary and placed on a concrete plinth.

Different size tanks up to 1750 ltr.

I would certainly get it in black/white that your property is ready before you make the trip .

Good luck either way.

Maybe as a suggestion, you could get someone who you know is there now, NOT your agent, and have them take a look at your place and get feedback from them.

Making sure it is ready was a serious comment as many have been promised their dream home only to arrive and find an unfinished shell.

Re Msg 8

Sideways, yep - all correct. But on top of the cost for the concrete base, the gas tank, and of course the gas to fill it I also got stung by a very nasty little man (I think TC but definitely grew up in London) who fitted the 3m of gas pipe to go from the tank to the house. It was copper, admittedly, but I could have done the job better myself - although he was keen to tell me that that wasn't allowed because you needed to have the official stamp etc. etc. Bottom line, £500 for 3m. Yes £500 not 500 YTL. It was a while ago and I've learnt a few lessons since then - but just thought I'd warn you to watch out for him!!

vincehugo and all,

The moral of the story is :

For all jobs, get a quote first. If you don't like it, then tell them and get 3 more quotes frome others.

Do not just pay it and moan afterwards. That just encourages them, and other like them, to keep on overcharging knowing that some mugs will just pay!!!

Regards,

Ozbey.
