I think I recently read somewhere that if you leave the Island for more than 90 days in any one year then you have to start your temporary residency again. Did I actually read this or was I dreaming?

Can someone help please.

Thanks

Karen

Karen,

How would anyone know, if you left or not? You don't have to have your passport stamped at all.

Karen

I have also read this, it was on one of the other forums.

unable to post a link, I am using a computer at work which limits things I can do

I think it also said that even if you cross the border for one day, that also counts as one of the 90 days!

correct me if I'm wrong, it has been a long day, I'm tired and want to go home.

Hi Suntanman

Yep that's what I seem to remember. Going to cause us problems as hubby likes to return to UK for the cricket season so it'll mean we have to start our temporary residency from scratch every year. Gonna work out blooming expensive.

It is correct.

When you do a shopping trip to south it would be counted as day away.

So if you want residency then you got to live here and not be passing through.

He'll just have to stay in TRNC and invest in Sky Sports to watch it on TV!

Hi Karen

The 90 day rule doesn't affect your temporary residency at all. It is only an issue if you want to apply for full residency which you can only do after obtaining 6 temporary residency stamps. So in effect this is after 5 years because you can apply for full residency as soon as you receive your 6th stamp. The powers that be have now decided that if you have been out of the country for more than 90 days in any one year during the 5 years then you have to start again building up your 6 stamps.

Mcsteviet - as already mentioned every time you come and go regardless of whether your passport is stamped, it is entered into the Customs computer. This is commonly known as ins and outs. For example, if you import a car here you have to go to customs and get a copy of all your ins and outs and this is part of the paperwork that has to be presented.

Hi Jo

Thank you.

I can see it'll still cause a problem as he likes to watch his local team and finds it a nice break from the heat in June, July and August. I suppose we'll always have to be temporary residents and never full residents.

OK thanks didn't realise that.

Does the year run from 01 Jan to 31 Dec or is there other dates, like in the UK, which revolves around the tax year?

Hi MC

The year runs from when you were granted your first temporary residence. ie. if you were granted it today then it would run out today next year givng you 1 year and 1 day.

Hi TRAll

Can someone tell me if you can spend more than 90days a year in the TRNC ? For example if we spent 90 days there and then went back to UK for a month could we then go back to the TRNC for a further stay or would we have to wait a year before they would let us back in ?
