Julie is very good - but on part time so book in with her early to make sure you get her. Experienced both in the UK and in TRNC with HSBC so understands your needs and also the limitations of the local banking system.

unless you have plenty of time on your hands, i suggest you think of an alternative bank.... I have been with Creditwest for over 12 months and their service is very quick, plus interest rates on savings (if you are lucky enough to have them) are higher than HSBC.....

Richard says: 'Take your packed lunch with you...' Take a sleeping bag, as well! Interminable queues @ HSBC seem to be the norm.

Msg 8 & 9 Msg 8 - One good reason to go with HSBC is that they are a part of HSBC Turkey which is a part of the global HSBC network. Their rates may be a little lower but you can be fairly sure that they are secure. Msg 9 - From my experience - neither a packed lunch nor a sleeping bag if you have an apointment (maybe a 20 minute wait in case someone has overrun but not worse) Of course the interuptions are always there as in any Turkish / Cypriot office. More often than not (again only from my experience) they are Brit's or Expats who want Julies attention while she's with you. Just smile and enjoy it's Cyprus.

Rogspur, Why do you want to become a customer at such a poor customer service bank? Just because you recognise the name from the UK doesn't make them any good. I was a customer of theirs for 6 years, but was always made to feel that I was working for them, not them for me. It even took me 2 days to close my accounts! I am now with three other local banks. Much better service, much quicker, just as secure ( from all my Turkish bank security enquiries), and, as a bonus, they all also pay better interest rates (Sterling and Lira). I repeat - Why do you want to join them?????????????????? Regards, Ozbey.

Went into HSBC, Girne yesterday, to change a £20 note to lira. Was told by the female staff member at the far right of the counter, app 2.20pm. that I needed my passport, to which I replied "that I have an account here" "no you need your passport" I then left the bank. My daughter then went in, asker to change a £20 to lira. "Passport" My daughter said "no, but I've got my driving licence" "yes, that's OK" and changed the £20 to lira. Now why didn't she give me that option, I had my drivers licence with me. As far as I'm concerned she was just trying to be an awkward banker. Have been avoiding that place like the plague recently, and will do in future. Glad there's internet banking. A very unhappy Navek :-( :-( :-(

It is definitely Younger so they must have made a mistake on the documentation. Also just wanted to say that I had to go into HSBC twice last Tuesday and both times it was really quiet and we were served immediately. I just wish their rates were better and then I would move all my money back to them. The internet banking site is really good and much better than the UK one.
