Kazzybe,

Lapis is one developer. Others are mentioned on this board. There are still many reputable and honest builders here.

Don't tar every company with the same brush. One or two bad apples DO NOT spoil a crop.

not everyone purchasing from Lapis has had the issues that this couple have had have they? Out of all the villas sold by Lapis how many have had serious issues? Perhaps no more than others from what i have read

Yes you guys are right, there are good buılders/developers here and there are bad ones. We didn't have any other avenues to pursue so we reluctantly decided to expose our situation, which is fully documented. We are not the only unhappy customers as you can see from the posting. When we were running a business even one unhappy customer was far too many.

Berty given the choice would you go through it again?

This is not the only horror story I have read. Messages on other BBs from Kay, Nige, Aga buyers all tell stories which seem to be coming too common but this one has broken the camels back for me. I came here 2 months ago to live intending to buy a place but now I would not risk it. I know there are good builders here also but I'm not prepare dto search in the haystack to find the needle.

I've read the whole of this post and there are a number of unhappy customers on there. But what is even more disturbing is the fact that the govrment are not prepared to take action against these people and it seems your own powers to do anything are limited. Yes I think you should read between the lines of all messages but I felt their story was written in a clear and consise way. The same cannot be said for the slightly manic ravings of the Lapis director and for a manager to tell their customers to put up and shut up beggars belief.

If a company does not fullfill their obligations under a contract they signed this proves dishonesty in my book. All this couple seem to want is what should be rightfully theirs. I'm sure knowing the reprisals they would get in return, they haven't done this lightly.

I wasn't aware of these boards until I moved here but on reading them and speaking to people who have complained to the PCO it seems little or nothing has been dones to improve peoples situation. So why was it set up in the first place if it's not to deal with these problems and make these companies act properly and decently?

Did the government just want to shut up buyers for a while and so set up a department that would have no clout to actually penalise wrong doers? Or was it set up with good intentions? If it's the latter then they need to address quickly why its not working and why many peoples situations remain the same. The biggest earner in NCyprus is tourism and construction so people willing to buy here need to be looked after.

Kazzybee,

Please consider:

Levent Homes

Imperial Construction

Sercem

Imkan Construction

Kali Construction

Kibris Insaat

Ersoy and Sons

Speak to ANY customer of these companies and I am sure that you will get the same answer; "Very happy", "excellent build", "On time", or in most cases "EARLY", "were there quickly if a problem occured".

Yes I agree there are good builders here too.I have also had majorproblems wıth my builder and applaud the people who are willing to name and shame. I dont have the guts to do it because I am scared. I am not proud of it and feel ashamed of myself for not doing it. Why should I feel like this at the age of 55?

These people have the courage to stand up and warn others. With all the additional problems this causes I dont doubt their integrity. They are certainly not doing it for their health!

I amscared of doing it because any one of the following is commonplace now if you complain: they threaten you with bodily harm, or will not get the title deeds, demand more money than is in the contract, mortgage your property, threaten to cut your water or electric and sometimes do just that, you will not get your snagging done, or ever get a good nights sleep because of the stress. And many more things besıde.

Potential buyers need to be made aware that this goes on here because the law will not protect them, in many cases the lawyers are in on it too. And the government are condoning this behaviour by not taking action against them.

Some people may complain that naming will lead to the company going bankrupt but its not the namers that will do this, its the sole responsibility of the company for acting in a dishonest manner. They should have thought of the consequences of their actions before they carry out their threats and actions.

The whole issue of buyıng here needs to be addressed to include transfer of title when you take possession. Now the buiding industry is not boomıng here anymore some companies are exploiting their customers by any means necessary.

Well said Cocos, but to sit back and give up will only give these thugs more confidence to ride roughshod over the meek. The companies who take this sort of action should be named and shamed so no one will deal with them, I was considering a purchase from Lapis but thanks to a little homework and advise have stayed well clear, the word is out in the UK that this place is a minefield of corruption governed by idiots. No doubt the present world credit crises and the sliding reputation of the TRNC, will be the final nail in the coffin for the boom time constuction thugs, and better mannered and customer focused companies will survive.

my sister is buying in the south side - and been royally ripped of by her builder.....so its not just the north to make anyone feel better. having a really bad time of it! told her she should have come north and used my independent builder who built a large villa in an individual plot and completed in 9 months and snagging done as I asked - no complaints.

I know some of the posters on this forum have had their problems with Kavanlar but after hearing all the other horror stories about builders and the AGA saga, I'm glad I purchased with them.

For all the delay, they did come up with the goods.
