According to Mark Forster's article in Cyprus Today:-

(in relation to the Sun Villa's fiasco where eleven families are having their homes auctioned from beneath them) Hasan Sonmezer - Chairman of the Bar Council said, 'British People did not have any knowledge of their rights' and that 'insulting all Lawyers and Courts because a few members of the Bar Association had neglected their legal obligations or were negligent was not ethical and was also a crime.'

So, watch out what you say about the State, Courts, Judges and Lawyers because apparently, insulting any one or, the other is a crime. He also specifically mentioned insults on 'websites.'

I agree that we do not know our rights, but isn't that why we need Lawyers?

Also apparently lawyers have no Duty of Care as in the UK. I don't believe it is regarded as a crime to tell the truth about lawyers here. They are part of the problem.

Ok well here goes - SUE US!!!!!!!

If it had not been for the allegedly corrupt bunch of advocates that were recommended by an allegedly corrupt Estate Agent and thyen used by AGA Victims and also the alleged corrupt behaviour by the then North Cyprus Government then the AGA SAGA would not have occurred.

If the allegedly corrupt lawyers had told the AGA Victims who was at the helm of AGA Development in the first place then no one in their right mind would have bought an AGA property. If the allegedly corrupt government hadn’t allegedly lined their on pockets with cash provided by ***** and let the British Director of AGA walk free when he was wanted by another country then this may have not occurred !

If the allegedly corrupt lawyers had done their jobs property instead of raking in the cash they would have been able to tell victims of HZ Omer that some of their properties were being built on government land. If the then allegedly corrupt housing minister had not allegedly put the frozen AGA funds into the private bank accounts of his civil servants then the allegedly corrupt regime may not have looked so corrupt.

If the allegedly corrupt lawyers had not been heavily involved in double and triple selling of properties then things may not have been so bad.

shall we go on ?

It is the views of people like Hasan Sonmezer - Chairman of the Bar Council that creates the problems of which we hear all too frequently. We go to Advocates for advice on the law in the TRNC but he seems to feel we should already know it !!

If we did, we wouldn't need them ! No logic in his arguments. Nor fairness and justice in his views.

Hasan Sonmezer has been erlected to the Chair of the Basr Council th's year/ It was h's predecessor who had stated rather irresponsibly that the advocates do now owe a duty of care to their customers. I am sure he thinks differently. I kn ow for a fact that he has been dealing with a big pile of complaints against the lawyers but bear in mind that it is not easy to make any allegations stick against them.

The main problem stems from the fact that Sale Agreements could not be registered at the Tapu for protection against future mortgages before 2008. So the main culprit is the government who refused to take notice of warnings and do something about it. I know that many years ago the head of Tapu tried to convince the Eroglu government to legistlate but nobody was listening. It is CTP who brought in registration but too late for most.

Fraud is fraud is fraud - whether legalised by any government, bank, lawyer, advocate or participant, anywhere in the world.

The last time I drove to Ercan, I passed a lawyer lying dead in the inside lane, obviously having being run over. On my way back I passed a dead dog in the inside lane, again, obviously having being run over. The only difference in the two "accident" sites, was the skid marks leading up to the dead dog.

Q. What's the difference between a Lawyer and sperm?

A. 1 in 50,000 sperm has a chance of becoming a human being!

In relation to Sun Villas forum members might like to read letter from Advocate Munir Akil who acted for some (the majority) of the buyers (including ourselves).... http://www.hbpg-trnc.net/documents/Press/sunvillas.html

If you don't know something, get professional help. After all, that is the service the Lawyers here in TRNC are selling. Unfortunately not all provide what they invoice for. As such, I think it more than fair game to pillary them for ... what do you call it?? Deceit? Fraud? Dishonesty? Laziness? Greed?. After all I paid a professional to act on my behalf in the purchase I can expect him to act for me, in my interests and in accordance with current legislation. It is also his duty to inform of new legislation affecting the issue he is dealing with and not hoodwink you. Mine thankfully was one of the rare breed that did what I asked, advised correctly, guided firmly and got 90% of what was in the worthless contract. Having said that the cmmunication left a lot to be desired and only personal visits got results. These as you may be aware are more expensive than E-Mails.

"If you don't know something, get professional help. After all, that is the service the Lawyers here in TRNC are selling."

They are saying if you get something wrong ,its your fault because you should know the laws, and not the lawyers fault.

So if that advise is wrong then you are at fault for not knowing it is wrong, crazy whats the point of having a lawyer if its all down to you.

If they are going down this route then estate agents should inform all potential purchasers that it is the purchasers duty to study the TRNC legal system for a couple of years before purchasing. If they dont do this, then anything that happens will be entirely the fault of the purchaser and no complaints should be made later on.

Talk about economic suicide,Would you buy a house somewhere where any problems or mistakes with purchase will be down to you and nothing to do with lawyer.

At least anyone coming onto this site will have been warned. Stay away! Power to the internet.
