Good grief!!!

Izzet has worked his socks off to provide what is probably the very best Cyprus website.

He's not a charity, he's running a business, part of which is to provide a FREE Forum for members.

He has fought and worked his ***** off through Hacking attacks and serious DOS problems, but got back here through hard work. Other NC websites have had similar problems and not recovered.

The 'Mod's work for FREE, spending much time receiving criticism and sometimes abuse.

Would any of you complainers like to apply to be a 'Mod' and be slagged off for your efforts, for FREE and give up hours of your time answering offline E-mails?

Get a grip.

Izzet has given us a FREE forum.

Remember that word complainers,............. FREE!

Thanks for your comments Rob. It's nice to get posts like these. I get quite a few positive emails off the forum as I'm sure do the other 'mods'. Izzet does do a fantastic job and I'm sure he'll be 'chuffed' at your comments.

What sometime's gets me down is when you get posts like.."thats why a lot of people have left the forum and gone elsewhere....". I have asked exactly how many have left the forum and it's always without a response.

Thanks again Rob

I'd second Rob's comments with an addition of few forum members as well.

Well said.

Bill, good questions remain without a serious answer too often. Too many threads must always be low-level "fun" for the comedians here and personal abuse for the malicious, anonymous lunatics who joined this board. Ignore them and keep up the good work, *all* Forum Admins! I appreciate your work, although I do not always agree with all decisions, but, hey! that's what Admins should expect - and why would they care?

a free forum yes but with responsibilites. Making decisions when to cut a thread I know is a thankless task (done that been there wornd the T shirt). All I would add is if the admins are going to close a thread keep your opinion to yourself before you do so or allow others to respond not add your opinion and then the very next comment close it down.

This happens too often, and be consistant many admins are not ! especailly if the subject matter is too close to comfort for them !

as I said done that worn the 'T shirt', never said I was Unhappy just having an opinion ROBnJO.

I have given up many many many hours for forusm and other people believe me I know it is a thankless task at the same time constructive critism should be listened too not dismissed out of hand

sorry if that does fall in with your thoughts

No offence taken!

I have always found that Izzet or the 'Mods' on 44 are very good at addressing any thoughts you have, especially if you email them off thread.

p.s. Did you mean: Does 'not' fall in with your thoughts?

Whichever,.. no problem.

It's nice to see appreciation. Many thanks.

The forum is the most important part of Cyprus44 and its current status is the result of the hard work by the forum admins.

Izzet, not only the forum admins................us mere mortals contribute too ?

I have said before if some mods were a little more open and approachable people would not get so hot under the collar about certain threads being pulled, for me the excuse of "Thread serving no purpose" is the most annoying and you can look at 90% of threads and to be quite honest they serve no purpose but are left to run.

I personally think this is the best NC forum thats why I post here and generally the forum is run very well keep it up guys....................... and simbas

I think overall Izzet & the forum admin do a very commendable job,the most important part of Cyprus44 is the forum, but the most important part of the forum is its members.

I agree, it must be a thankless task being a 'forum admin' member, you can't do right for doing wrong but please keep up the good work because at the end of the day we do have a good forum to express our views and ask general questions which is needed here in the TRNC.

Thank you for your input, I hear what you are saying about the closure message but when closing a thread, which is done reluctantly in most cases, we are offered a number of pre set reasons to post as the closure post.

Often these are perfectly descriptive but sometimes you have to make the best choice when none are absolutely appropriate.

I has also 'worn the T shirt' and it is somtimes a thankless task being a 'forum admin' - Izzet & the other 'mods' have my full support, and don't deserve the critism they get.

I found if there was a potential problem - to approach the owner of a thread and try and sort it out, the same should apply to criticism - speak to a moderator first.

I was also of the mind that admin do a thankless task until i saw what happened to Queen Bar....a quite innappropriate punishment! If you look at his posts you will see that his english isn't up to par and quite obviously doesn't understand the rules! I think an email first, explaining the rules would have sufficed!! He is a lovely man, and is quite hurt by this, as am i!!

Yes DD, but is he in competition with one of the Mods or their friends? Seems to make a difference.

I can assure you that the person who reviewed and acted on Queen Bar is not in competition with them and to the best of my knowledge nor are any of the Mods.

Does anyone want to come up with a list of sensible suggestions or options for 'mods' to comply with?

'Rules is Rules',.. if you have some constructive comments, let's hear them.

I'm sure Izzet & the 'mods' would like some positive input that would help to keep this the best Cyprus site.

RE msg 25, ROBnJO: 1 : All personal remarks regarding other members should be deleted at once or at least asap. 2 : All posts diverting the subject of a thread off topic should be deleted at once or at least asap.

(Hey, I will suffer, but I think it would be good for the quality and content of the board).

I have the answer...

It's called the law of B's...

I would BAN them,

Brinsley would BAZOOKA them

Jock1 would BIRCH them,

while DC would use the power of words, and simply

BESCHAMEN them (shame them)

cronos,

That takes more willpower than most people can muster - I'm a great advocate of ignoring 'em, but I still 'bite' sometimes...

Hans re msg 26

I instantly thought.. 'yes, good suggestions', but have realised the fatal flaw in suggestions for 'Mods'.

It's ultimately all in the interpretation of the rule by an individual 'Mod'.

For example, if I posted:

A: That DC is just an old Clog Dancing Tulip Sniffer.

or:

B: Lets face it Hans, you're just a Clog Dancing Tulip Sniffer

Would a 'Mod' consider A or B, or both to be a personal remark or light hearted banter?

p.s. ( I meant them both as light hearted banter)

RE msg 31, ROBnJO: (...) p.s. I meant them both as light hearted banter (...)

=> Msg taken as suggested, RnJ! I would suggest the Mods would leave both examples untouched in a message - this board should not become a Kindergarten. I think they are well up to the job and know where to draw the line. Different decisions by mods are inevitable when there is more than one "editor" on the job. We have to accept that. We can hardly expect Izzet to be the senior editor with the final say for 7/24.

I think you understand very well what I meant when I used "personal remarks"... Maybe I should have written "malicious personal remarks"?

Hans

I totally agree re 'malicious personal remarks'.

One topic, by sheffpants, 'A British run Ltd Company with guarantees', degenerated into a quite vicious argument by a couple of totally off topic posters.

Despite mild warnings (yellow cards?) by 'Mod' Simbas , the argument continued and even the last post by 'Mod' AJ just seemed to be trying to further provocate an off topic argument.

That topic should have been closed to comply with the rules, but was left to run.

I have respect for simbas and AJ, but I think they got it wrong there.

I think what many of us have problems with is inconsistency.

Maybe a stronger use of 'Yellow' & 'Red' cards, with reasons, by Mods would be appreciated.

2 warnings, followed by time in the 'Sin Bin' on the 3rd Offence, regardless of any personal involvement, friendship or connection by the Mod.
