Lilli. does all of this mean that Bez does is not in need of a solicitor? as DC and I had made a pledge for this purpose, reading the threads it looks like Bez and family are leaving 'pronto', and not in want of one. lol

RE msg 5, dizzycows: I understand that the hair dresser has been released without being charged. So he obviously does not need a lawyer (btw there are no solicitors in TRNC). I'm only amazed that the promised reaction by his wife never appeared on this board. The family will leave TRNC soon, if several sources are to be believed.

LLB is just a Degree, Batchelor of Laws. A solicitor (as I suspect most people understand the use of the term) has further passed profesional examinations set by the Law Society and works according to their rules, pays subscriptions etc. etc.

Lilli,

I am surprised you are supporting a fund raising for someone who has been flaunting the laws of the trnc openly for a few years, Gez must have known he was acting illegally, and therefore must take whatever punishment comes. I do disaagree with him being arrested over the weekend, treatment was a bit ott, but I am led to believe that the City & Guilds representative from London came over to initiate this situation and that because of the fraudulent certificate he is now likely to be arrested if and when he returns to the uk.

I understand he may have needed to earn a living over here, but as he could legally work in a salon why overstretch his qualifications, become illegal in his activities and jeapordize his position in the trnc after all his years in the trnc?

Lilli, you are a lovely caring person, but I do feel on this occasion your support of Gez is not deserved.

Japeal. I agree wholeheartely with you. It must make those who have had to work hard to obtain their City and Guilds certificate feel sick to think this guy is getting so much support. At the end of the day, he has committed fraud. I am sure he is well able to pay for his own tickets back to the UK considering the clientele he had and the long wait for appointments at his salon. Liz, please think carefully before you go ahead with this, there are a lot of people out here who do not agree. Like Sheila said there are a lot of people out here who are worried about being able to stay for various reasons that are not criminal.

re msg 16 and 17,

I do not know the truth about this particular situation, but I must agree with you that there are often far too many "do gooders" ready to throw themselves up on the sympathy bandwagon, without first giving enough thought to the rights and wrongs of the case. Maybe they think it makes them sound like good people, but to me it makes them appear somewhat shallow.

Wait until you all know the TRUE FACTS before taking sides!

Regards,

Ozbey.

Yes I have to agree with Sheila. As with any qualification, people work hard to get them, so I'm sure they won't want to be donating to someone that got caught with a forged certificate. It must have been awful for him and his family last weekend, and I do feel sorry for him, but he must have known there was a chance he would get caught one day. There are a lot of people here with genuine hard luck stories, but no one seems to be raising money for them. They just have to quietly pack up and go back to England.

I am in no way knocking Lilli, she is a genuine caring person, it is just on this particular event I do feel that Gez is getting his due rewards. One can feel sympathetic to his family, but his partner must have been aware of what he was doing.

This could be one of the first cases of the trnc govt catching someone working illegally with proof of such.

I would go along with the previous comments to a certain degree, BUT, it stillsmacks of discrimination. What Gez has done is for sure not right, but as an expat he is made an example of. I reiterate, what abountall the scum Estatae Agents, Builders and Advokats that are walking free despite having made many, many peoples lives hell on earth here. The police, courts know how to deal with and severly in gez's case, petty crime, but when it comes to total rip off fraud etc. they have not got a bloody clue. Don't knock Lilli, a lot of us are here permanently and we for better or worse have got to try and stick together.

I would also add that as an ex pat to try and set up a business legally here, as some young people following their parents have tried to do, mostly because they want a better life for their kids, and believe me there is that, is hell on earth, they are put through hoops, taxed out of existance, and in general life is made bloody difficult for them to make a living, why, because, the locals do not want anyone here who perhaps knows better.

Natalie, couldnt agree with you more regarding the real fraud thats going on in front of the polices noses.

MickyFinn perhaps a lot of stuff was put up that a lot of us had no clue as to what really was going on regarding fake documents, we were lead to believe that he was thrown into prison with paperwork being sorted in the pipe line! so please dont have a go at folks for trying to help. It has since come to light that all wasnt 'kosher'. If he had wanted help and all had been above board, some of us would have helped with the funding of a solicitor. But as things came to light it became a different story. So please dont blame Lilli or others for at least showing that they would have helped a family in trouble. lol

I thank you for your replies . In no way do I condone any one working illegally but when the report on here was posted I along with many of you pledged money to get a lawyer and I thoght a fundraiser would help. Its hard enough here to make a living and face the authorities. We all got carried away on the emotion of this. I will not risk my buisness all I wanted to do was help a family in trouble and thought that would. There are children involved also.I dont know Jezs buisness nor do I want to. I make it a poloicy to mind my own.All I know that this family was in trouble and many pledged 25 pounds to help. How many of you can say they dont have a gardner cleaner pool cleaner ironing lady that you whom employ them should get them a permit. From this response I am left with no alternative than to cancel it. I will not be involved in any controversary. I still feal sorry for the situation he found himself in for whatever reason. In no way am I shallow as those who know me will testify

Great response Lilli. We know what a compassionate person you are, and yes when this all first came out, it did look like the family may need some assistance with legal representation and I understand why so many were looking to help in some small way. Having said that, as things have unfolded and because the situation is causing so much controversy I suspect you are taking the right course of action. You neither deserve nor need to be criticised and stressed out over this, and I'm sure Gez and his family will understand.

If individuals still feel they want to help with their move back to the UK, they can always do it personally, privately and directly with the family.

Forgive me , but whether he is innocent or guilty ,{ which is none of our business anyway } . Wasn't it the circumstances in which he was arrested , and the conditions he was kept in , and the horror that his family was experiencing in an adopted country ?, that prompted all the support for this family . Being able to emphasize unconditionally with a family in crisis , is a really admirable thing to be able to do , and to act on that even more admirable . That is my opinion only , and to know they were not on their own , must have been a great source of comfort to them . I for one thought that the compassion felt and shown for this family by most of the members on 44 was a very humane response to a situation anyone of us could have found ourselves in for various reasons legally or not .

Have a good w/e , Simbas

Well said Lilli, and simbas,Lilli dont let mickyfinn or any one ever, ever, stop you doing what you did, as next time it might be ------ mickyfinn!!!!, not under the same circumstances of course, but you never know in life what help you may want and the sooner things are put into action the better!! you can always stop something, it is a damb site harder to get something going. So please let the critisism be not quite so negative, have a great day everone as I am sure the sun is shinning in NC, it is raining where I am again lol

Of course we would help, I for one will always be there for other people, and I do feel for Gez's family,

But you all have forgotten that Gez knew he was working illegally from the start, if I had forged my paperwork to (say) get a Residency then I would one day expect to be found out and face the consequences.

If only he would have worked in a Salon without buying one this would never have arisen.

I understand Simbas/hattikins/Liz what you are saying and I feel for the kids, but he knew exactly what he was doing, going ahead with buying knowing full well he could fall flat on his face, and get the sympathy vote, sorry not from me.

I know this makes me seem a hard person, but believe me I am not.

Smithy it does not make you a hard person at all, if as you say Gez knew of these things ,and you knew he was working illegally you have every right to say what you have. It was just unfortunate that most of this stuff did not come out right from the start. ....

I agree with Smithy. I do feel for what this family have been experiencing, but at the same time we must all learn to live by the rules in this country. If we dont, in time, it will carch up with us. What I could never understand is why the salon was never opened.

Big sign in the window English Hairdresser coming (or opening) soon but it always looked shut.

Lilli,

What you did (or tried to do) by organising a fundraiser, was done with heartfelt compassion of a situation at the time, and unfortunately not all the facts seemed to have been posted originally, and I for one would hope that I would know someone like you should I ever end up in trouble!

However, and there is invariably a 'however', I do believe that if someone has done wrong and especially if they knew about it, then they deserved to be punished as I posted on another thread of which you kindly responded to.

The police handling of the situation did come across as 'heavyhanded', but Gez should have thought all this through before doing as he did.

But please, do let this get you down, you did what you felt was right at the time with a genuine caring attitude that would put many of us to shame.

As said above; look after yours and yourself.

One thing I did miss out on the msg 40, as this is not aimed at anyone in particular, is the the 'hammering' that Naj and Nulten received on this forum..... quite sad really. They are both excellent hairdressers, as some of you will realise I always recommend Naj when someone new is looking for a good hair cut.

What I cannot understand is that nobody criticises Marion at the HBPG for trying to regulate the estate agents, builders, solicitors etc and nor should they as she (and her team) put in so much time and effort trying to help people.

However, someone has to start somewhere and by helping to 'tidy up' illegal practices in whatever industry and whoever it is should be supported, as we do with Marion.

As I said in msg 40 the only thing that I could see that I 'personally' didn't like was the police 'heavy handedness' of the situation but it is the way of the country that we have chosen to live in and we choose to accept these ways and others as we choose to live here.
