Been and renewed my 2nd year residency today, got there for 8.35 was second in queue and was out by 9.10, the guy in the immigration was really nice, very chatty. Here is a run down of what you need, 1 copy contract of property, 1 copy of passport (photo page and visa page) 1 copy bank statement, original muktars letter, they take your pink residency book and look at your passport. You are then given a sheet of paper on which you write your previous UK address, your mother and fathers first name, your telephone number and then sign it. Hope this is helpful information to anyone about to renew residency.

hi elkiton it was at Girne police station and no stamps needed..you only pay when you pick your residency up at Lefkosa in they say about 3 weeks later and the cost ( I am led to believe ) is 175tl ...having said that the guy in immigration did say it would be ready in 2 weeks time but I think I'll try in 3 lol

Elkiton stamps needed for renewal this year 6.8TL per person to be taken to Lefkosa. You can buy them there in the cafe for 7.5TL. FS I would suggest you go with him and take copies of your kocan and bank statements and probably your passport to prove family connection. Jo

The Muhtars letter including the stamp can vary from nothing to 20tl. In Lapta I just paid 10tl

I realise that the letter itself is at a cost, but what value stamp has to be affixed to the letter? as last year i had to go from the police station to the post office for one. I think from memory it was 5.8tl but as i get older my memory gets weaker.

The Muhtar should supply the letter with the stamp attached. Ours in Karsiyaka charges 10TL.

I am so pleased to hear that someone managed to renew their residency today as we went to renew ours and were turned away! I telephoned Immigration and Girne Police station last week and was told we could apply around 20 days before it was due. We queued and when it was our turn were told that we had come too early and should come back in 10 days time (that would be 10 days before our residency expires). ??????????? Our Muhtar (Girne) charges 10 lira for a letter and told us to put 1.30 lira stamp on it. The post office confirmed this. What are the chances do you think of the Police sending us away again next time we go because we don't have the right stamps on our Muhtar's letters? Oh for a frequently updated Immigration website giving the correct information or would that be asking too much?

We went to Lefkosa on Monday to renew our residency, having submitted the correct paperwork through Girne police station, having waited for approx 2 and a half hours we went through to the office counter and told we were there 8 days too early and to come back on either 26th or 27th Aug. This was of course after the nice policeman in Girne told us to go after two weeks. So a wasted journey and frayed tempers with the immigration people showing no flexibility about putting the residency stamp in with a advance of date. The muhtars letter in Karsiyaka is 10tl which includes stamps from the Koop store.

debdebs; You forgot to add one copy of proof of stamp duty paid. Or tax paid if renting. Also you didn't renew your residency only started the process. If you can, wait four weeks to go to Lefkosa, they are backed up in there. Stamp value is 6.60tl. Single stamp for sale in post offices.

Just a suggestion: Would it be too much to ask 'Cyprus Today' to liase with Immigration and, in every issue, accurately publish the necessary residents' visa criteria with updated requirements, as they occur? Alternatively, why can't BRS glean the information and relay it to 'Cyprus Today'?

Tenakoutou, Great idea re BRS. Perhaps they could also do it for Car Tax, MOT, Emmissions Testing, Driving License etc. Maybe they could keep it updated weekly on their web site and therefore not need to use Cyprus Today.

Been to Lefkosa this morning to have my latest "12 months visitor visa" (Residency) stamped in my passport. Arrived 7.15, put name in book, was number 12. 8.10 an employee came and handed out the numbered tickets. 8.45 I was asked through into the office. 9.05 all finished. This was my 6th Visa and was the easiest of them all. The numbered queueing system, and the two men controlling it, has made it a much fairer and more pleasant experience. There is also now a decent waiting room, with seats, and small (and cheap) cafe. goonerstan, maybe Friday is a bad day to go, maybe I was just lucky or maybe Ramazan has reduced the numbers going - who knows?

joandjelly, Hope I'm not too late for you - been out and just got back. List was was outside by steps until about 7.40 when cafe opened. It was then moved to the table just outside the door of the office where you eventually do the business (opposite the waiting room). Hope you are as lucky tomorrow as I was today. Regards, Ozbey.

Did my bits in Girne Police Station this morning - for the start of the third stamp - and was told by the policeman that I may have a problem with Lefocsia as I do not have a "Local" bank account. Anyone suggest a bank I should go to - got very little cash as we live on pensions but at least I could open and account to show willing!
