Sorry.. to be more constructive>

If you just holiday in Cyprus.. they have a 1m dish to pickup BBC World, Euronews, and Eng lang drama/ movies / serials via Nilesat

I have a HUGE dish and found myself watching it most of the time ! . even over BBC / ITV, etc.

If you live in Cyprus and UK content is important then get a good 1.8m offset dish and a SKY HD receiver and subscription and watch 60+ UK channels nearly half of 'em in HD.. and use the red interactive button on BBC news 24 to get a lot of major sport on the Beeb.

The options you suggest use a pirated decryption of pay TV services and they ALWAYS get turned off / blocked leaving you with a useless box.

Those of us who are a bit older.. do you remember Filmnet on the old SKY dish?

mmmmmmm

Certainly remember the filmnet decoders and still have a variety gathering dust in my garage - including a very up market model which did DMac as well produced by Chris Carey (ex Radio Caroline) He later went on to produce pirated sky cards, fled the UK to escape the wrath of Murdoch and was arrested in New Zealand from whence he was returned to do time. Not just NC where there are a few iffy characters in this line of business. Chris was basically a good sort and his filmnet decoders always worked. He sadly passed away a couple of years ago after a stroke.

That's the one for me. Got fed up with digiturk. Where would I get a reasonably priced package?

What a fascinating storey..

re Filmnet.. I was AMAZED what the Dutch allowed on their TV.. it was the stuffy Brits that made 'em scramble

mmmmmm I have asked before, but I'll try again as I didn't get a reply last time. You keep saying about taking a Sky HD box out. Would it be worth taking an 'ordinary' i.e. not HD or Sky+, (I know, I'm a bit out of date) out with me?

Teatime re msg 10

I'm sorry if I missed it - if you included it in the previous UK TV Direct thread, I THINK I could be "excused" ?! ;)

I recommend the HD box as:

1/ The HD signals for the same channels are STRONGER - as a rule

2/ The HD tuners are very sensitive - better than most SKY Pluses - in weaker footprint areas - and especially if you have the new HD menu system - which seems to allow HD boxes to be more "stable on 1.8M offset dishes in marginal areas.

OK, it costs £10 / month more, but if you can't / won't have a 4.2m - they are the box to go for..

Living in CY - being two hours ahead - you fall asleep before the prog ends.. so being able to record is GREAT.

Thanks for that mmmmmm.

I've so far resisted going over to HD, as I am not a huge tv watcher. Seems like the Nilesat system may be the answer then, as I will take quite a few DVD's out with me, so will always have those to watch. Perhaps I can get the missis treatment to wean her off the soaps.
