http://www.cyprus-mail.com/news/main.php?id=47385&cat_id=1 Well I'm a professional "*****" (You can guess). I'll be able to vote, sit with the locals in the coffee shops, demand my dinner when I want, and above all, get a job that I won't have to do, all with massive lots of overtime. Then in a couple of years I'll be able to get a pension. And I thought being a citizen in Dubai was the best!

Apologies for the spelling mistake in the title thread. Of course, it should have been citizenship. I just got too excited about all the benefits.

I used to live next door to someone called Jeannie who always complained about me parking my van on her driveway. I take this opportunity to apologise now, but I had to do it as it got in the way of my Bently. Michael

You can obtain citizenship if you have 6 consecutive years of residency. But it costs 1200 ytl and you can only be out of the country for 90days in a year or you lose it.

Deniz1, Or anyone else, please correct me if I'm wrong... I think that you are not allowed to be out of the country for more than 90 consecutive days during the 6 year qualifying period, or else it 'resets' and you have to re-start the 6 years again. I don't think that you lose your citizenship - once you've achieved it - by being out of the country for more than 90 consecutive days. If that was what you meant, then I apologise for being pedantic. Ed. Pedantic? What do you mean PEDANTIC? - It all depends on how, exactly, you define PEDANTIC !

I think you will find, you have to live here for six years without leaving the TRNC to gain permanent residency. It used to be ten years for citizenship. Recently I read in the newspaper it is now 25 years! I have had permanent residency since 1983. A German friend of mine said they were no longer giving permanent residency, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

It is permanent residency after 6 years not citizenship and the 90 day rule isn't consecutive it's 90 days period and this includes day trips to the South. This was reported in Cyprus Today a while back.

Mess 9. You can get permanent residency after 6 years, citizenship is a lot longer. Until recently it was 10 years, but I read something in one of the newspapers that it was now 25 years. I have had permanent residency/ business permission since 1983. If after you get permanent residency, and it is a big IF, you are out of the country for more than 90 days, you lose it. This happened to my neighbour who was out of the country for health reasons. By the way , do you know of anyone who has got permanent residency recently?? As for the 1500 citizenships, this will apply to Turkish nationals who are in professional positions in the TRNC as happened some years ago, prior to an election. I'm sure someone will put me right on the most recent changes to the law regarding citizenship!!
