The number of Poms (especially the children) I've met who won't touch vegetables (apart from chips) and salads is quite amazing! All they seem to want is pizza, burgers, or pasta with artificial flavouring. Obviously, the UK diet (for the masses) has completely changed in the last 30 odd years - the 'benefits' of this 'lazy diet' being reflected in the obesity figures of pre alcohol drinking youngsters.

Hi Tenakoutou, I totally agree with you, I love all vegetables but I did try one recently that I didn't like and that was ochra or ladies fingers. Yuk!! You are right that many children don't eat vegetables these days and live on a diet of chips burgers and piazzas. This is due mainly to mothers who do not know how to cook and give their kids an endless diet of convenience foods. When I went to school, domestic science was part of the school curriculam but I understand these days it is not. My view is it should be brought back, so young girls learn how to cook and learn the nutritional value of vegetables. The butlers wife

DD, I am with you on this one. I was brought up on fresh fruit and veg and whilst I can eat fruit the traditional veg is a big 'NO NO' for me. Cabbage, cauliflower, swede, turnip, parsnips, brussel sprouts (the worse!!), brocolli, broad beans, butter beans!!

Loulou, had loads'a meals at Jessics, from when Muz cooked, went, came back and let the kitchen. Never had a bad meal yet. Mebbe you should go tell Muz how you feel/felt, I'm sure Dennis and he can sort you out.

Domestic science should be taught to both sexes, but my two sons both learned to cook at home. They are both selective with veg. but love fruit. Their off-spring however take most veg and McD and Pizzas are treats. The comment about a lot of young mums not cooking is a relevant one. Too many obese toddlers and teens around in Britain unfortunately.

| Well, everyone likes what they like and there is nothing you can do about it! I like most things but can't digest peppers of any colour (find them so heavy) and not keen on meat, except a bit of chicken now and again...I don't think parents influence too much, my nieces know exactly what they want and try anything, one does not like chips, chocolate or anything you think kids would like and eats very healthily, through her own choice (at just 5 years old!) She just knows what she likes and wants, her sister loves Macdonalds etc and won' t eat any veg, what can you do?! The world would be a very boring place if we all liked the same things! I think everything in moderation (or you get sick of it) and a little bit of everything in the diet to be healthy, we all need fruit, veg, protein, carbohydrates, nuts etc and tastes change as you get older...It looks like those that were forced things as children are obviously rebelling now and wont go near that food! | I do a vegetable soup 7 or 8 veg the grandchildren love it, they won't eat the the fresh vegetables though, they say they don't like them! From being 14 my Son did his own cooking as he liked to experiment with different foods we didn't like, now he cooks for his wife and 2 children and he makes sure they eat healthy, his wife is a celiac so he has to cook her type of food for her. |
